I'm not typically a delivery guy, because today I just spent an extra $30 on grocery shopping because I have a serious eye problem.

Can't see myself going to the grocery store today or tomorrow.

@simonwood I’m taking bets on which one will be more enjoyable. (Even if the he ’s name is Le Diable.”)

Normally, I’m on the side of television/movie writers. They’ve got the most important job because without a good story, everything else is just shallow window-dressing.

But… I am so sick to death of Star Trek writers bitching that they “can’t write drama” within the Star Trek universe as defined.

As my kids would say, “get good.”

This is fascinating stuff! Gates Pass and Mt Lemmon are prime candidates for this technology. Motorcyclists and cars love to do fast “canyon runs” up both those roads and blind corners become a huge issue if the car is going like 2x the speed limit around a blind corner with a cyclist using the lane ahead. https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/112407010282309595

As I watched this ad, my first thought was, “WTF?” But about halfway through, I realized it was being compressed INTO an iPad. “OK, I get it…”

But

The misstep to me is that the items are (a) obviously being destroyed and (b) leaking out and therefore escaping being part of the iPad. The iPad is therefore less than the sum of the parts.

Also, the rubber ball face doesn’t look happy being squished.

I reckon this ad will disappear very soon.

Damn.

I just thought I coined a clever new word, “metropocalypse” referring to the clusterfuck that is urban design in places like Phoenix.

However, I see there is a podcast of that name, which appears to be about (I'm guessing) the clusterfuck that is/are Metros (as in "subways”.)

I'm using it anyway.

@donburnside Yup.

I’ll confess, it stumbled a bunch in S1-2, and I really disliked the S3 attempt to be 9/11 relevant, but S4 is one of my favorites of the Trek Lites.

@donburnside I should add, while I am not offended seeing Naked T'Pol, I was regularly offended by the fact that the showrunners/network felt the need to trot out Naked T'Pol all the time.

📚 , , nerds: opinions, please? Reading or using term "faux pas"--we all know basic definition: social blunder. But do you assume-and/or do you think others assume--the term implies that the blunder happened b/c someone knew better & "oops, forgot!" Or that the blunder happened b/c someone didn't know better in 1st place? No wrong answers here. I just have reasons for wondering how others view this. Any input appreciated! 😎

Clearly not 's most critical post!

Nasty little secret about : They claim to have 700-800 miles of bike paths, and while I don’t doubt the number, I do doubt the value of them.

There are many, many demarcated bike lanes that go a couple blocks and then end.

I’ve started a little project to write up and highlight a number of the useful bike paths — the ones that can get you some distance reasonably easily.

Today’s ride (as was yesterday’s) was Maryland Ave.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

The write-up on Maryland is coming soon, but it has a few surprises for me today.

I thought it was going to end at an undeveloped lot at 75th Ave, but that was just a bizarre little graveyard, it it continued on from there.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@rscottjones Funny thing is, that interactive map isn’t even up to date. They’ve added bike lanes on Maryland west of 27th Ave in the last year or so, but not showing on the map.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@NewNordicNormal The canals are very popular bike paths across Phoenix, and in the last few years, they’ve put a lot of effort into improving them. Most are paved now.

Weird thing though, because of right-of-access, the cities control one side of the canals and the Salt River Project controls the other.

It means in most places, only one bank is paved, and it sometimes switches between one side and the other.
