“What is up with some people’s complete disrespect for our public spaces? It doesn’t require a huge amount of effort and discipline to keep our streets, sidewalks, parks and shorelines clean. Yet some of us appear incapable.”
Not everyone has access or shares the same situation. Just because you may do one thing does not nessesary mean everyone else can do the same. There may be reasons I can’t take a car. These can be personal preferences or physical barriers.
For example I could be blind, or maybe I suffer extreme hand eye coordination issues. It could be that I can’t afford a car, or the financial expense associated with it. Or maybe I don’t want to be apart of the environmental expenses owning a car.
And who knows maybe I cycle or take a scooter, but use transite as a connection to cut down travel time.
Fyi, my fiancée became a Canadian resident a few years back. When you become a new resident Canada gives you a welcome package, in this package you get a one year voucher for free visits to any national park (ie, not provincial parks).
So the closest national park to us is like 6-7 hours away. We do the drive and have no way to use this voucher, even in the one year window. To add (if I remember correctly) it was also only a voucher for a day visit, so parking…
I have a feeling like 90% of these voucher do not get used.
It reminded me of the time a handful of years ago VIA Rail did a promotion for anyone under 18-19. You would received a voucher to travel VIA rail from one side of Canada to the other. I don’t remember the specifics but it was only for the train ride with unlimited stops 2-ways.
Absolutely, a welcome package for a new Canadian is not something we as Canadians should be angered about.
You don’t freak out when the new person that just joined your office you been working at got a new pen, and maybe a shinny new stapler?
What we really should be angered aboot, and ashamed of as Canadians, is that its actually cheeper for us to go on vacation to Europe for 2-3weeks instead of being able to visit parts of Canada. A train ride to Vancouver is just as expensive as a plane flight if not more, and if you want to go to any of the northern parts you will need a car. Not to mention the price of accommodations such as a hotel or airbnd.
There should be more trains that take you to national and maybe even provincial parks and surrounding towns.
Though they would also need to be financially sound at the time they became a full on citizen, own a car (to make us of the day pass free parking), and be able to take the time off, to actually go see these parks.
Remembering the voucher kicks in on the day of becoming a citizen and then expires exactly in exactly 1 year.
I guarantee you if someone becomes a citizen in their teens and originally immigrated on their own with no family (which happens), they would more then likely not benefit from this, and probably not even have the means to see these parks in that one year window, and make use of the free day pass voucher for free parking…
Seems like it was 12-25 years of age and 150$ for a month of unlimited travel. It was a good deal but only available for 1 month, and i was already to old :'(
Would of been nice to use the pass and only sleep on the train as opposed to finding hotels.

They have re-built portions of the station I live closest to 6 times. Also, why is fencing still needed on portions that seem complete were no work had happened for more the a year. Take the fencing down and give the sidewalks back to pedestrian.
Slap some darn stickers on the sliding doors saying “this station is not in operation” or something like “opening soon, 2027-2029”
Absolutely, though I do wish more of the public and local governments would follow this type of mentality. Seems like most local towns and cities have lost this.
Seems like everything’s more along the lines of “if it’s not completely broken, then don’t bother fixing or even improving it.”
I’m not judging, I’m genuinely curious. The reason why I’m asking is because in this sort of games I like to make the character resemble me as much as possible in every aspect, so I’m just curious to know what is the motivation behind men that decide to play as a female character.
I think one or the draw backs with aluminium cans though is they still have that plastic lining inside?
Coke cans and most pop for example still have plastic inside. Canada even recently made a paper wine bottle, but believe it or not, plastic bag inside a paper bottle.
About 10-12 years back i went to Dominican (outside of resort’s). It was eye opening in a sense, though what shocked me then was the amount of empty 2L bottle everywhere, it was insane.
I’m allergic to fruits, penguins are not real, demons scare me, I’m not into sexual things, and its too warm where I am to wear mascots. Windows I have no issues with.
I believe OP was referring to a utopian Star Trek style UBI where all things are provided with matter replication. Essential life at that point is the betterment of ones self and evwyone around them.
But you are correct in our world currently UBI would work more as a cushion or buffer. It would ideally allow individuals that are stuck in jobs they hate, to move to jobs they actually enjoy and are good at.
It would mean less fear of loosing a job and give workers more power. You would not be able to live on the wage at your current life style, but it would allow you to at least survive in someway if you lost your job.
I believe the best way for something like this to get implemented is by taxation of businesses that have automated they workforces. For example a car production line has removed human roles and replaced them with machines, or a store removed cashiers and replaced them with self checkouts.
Good point on the taxation, as taxing automaton may result in less incentive to automate.
IMO the Star Trek type utopia would only work if we had replication technology like they have in the show. Those machines that essential make anything you want from food/water to material things out of thin air.
I agree, I go out once a week either Sunday or Saturday for two hours and clean up parts of the trails in and around my area.
Its amazing how much trash and litter is along the trails, I can get on average a extra large 140L clear bag filled in 2 hours and only walk about 30-50 meters.
Where I find the issues is though is not entirely with the bins themselves (though they can use improvement). The issue really is on waste collection, for example bins are always overflowing and whenever waste is collected most of the time what falls out during collection is left to blow away becoming litter. This litter is not collected by the city and instead falls to local residents to pick up.
Street garbage collection trucks and the large bin collection trucks, when collecting trash cause a good chunk of trash to become litter. I think this collection process needs a redesign to prevent waste from falling out.
What we need is bins like the ones shown bellow. These are fully sealed and underground. These should replace the large bins behind warehouses and plazas. The same should also be implemented in parks and along trails and sidewalks.
