This is all super fascinating from a macro view. Originally telephony services (landlines) were provided by a government utility. That utility was privatised in the late-20th century with certain guarantees that they will continue to provide a certain standard of telephony services.
Along come all these mobile carriers, who are providing a private service without the same level of assurance they will meet those requirements. You probably don’t notice, but when you sign up to a mobile or VoIP telephony service, you’ll routinely agree to waive those guarantees (do a quick google of “csg waiver”). In short: Most non-Telstra carriers won’t/don’t actually guarantee you can reach 000, or meet the government CSG. Only that they’ll try their best.
It looks like the government is considering stepping in and putting an end to that practice. It’ll be a huge shake up to the telco industry.
Google showed me this picture today. It was taken at 2pm at home on 29/04/2014 (exactly 10 years ago).
I obviously prepared this “food” and felt the need to photograph it. I don’t remember why. I suspect by the lack of vegetables it was some sort of special occasion like the family being away and me reverting to bachelor cooking.
My mate works for an Indian company and got WFH forever. I was in shock because I never thought any company can give a work from home option forever ? Does any Australian company gives you such an option ? If so, please name those companies and job titles so that I can start applying for jobs there.
Not in WA. We mostly sailed through the whole Covid thing business as usual. There’s more work from home than there was before 2020, but I don’t know any company that has all its employees remote.
My employer has a few people working from home, but it’s usually because they’re working for customers in different states. It’s certainly not normal and not assured to always be remote.
I think my wife lost her purse there. Can you keep an eye out for it? It’s pink, about 3 meters wide and 1.5 meters high. She thinks she lost it somewhere around the corner of Burke and Elizabeth.
I’m genuinely surprised and impressed at how many people are at work today. Granted, there is a lot going on right now. But still - hardly anyone took the day off.
Me too, only I’m like this for every film. I much prefer going into a cinema unspoiled.
I just learned this week that the trailer for Captain America civil war trailer had Spiderman in it. I can’t imagine how annoyed I’d have been if that surprise were denied me as I watched the movie.
Australia’s prime minister has labelled X’s owner, Elon Musk, an “arrogant billionaire who thinks he is above the law” as the rift deepens between Australia and the tech platform over the removal of videos of a violent stabbing in a Sydney church....
For that much money, they could almost buy Twitter. Isn’t it only worth about $4Billion now?
To really rub salt in the wound, they should leave Elon with the “X” brand and only buy Twitter. Let the users decide whether they are Twitter users or X users.
Temperature dipped below 12° briefly yesterday before maxing out at 24 or so. Similar temperatures forecast for the next week. It’s been shorts and tshirts weather all year to this point.

It’d depend on the type of cafe. A hole in the wall coffee shop that just serves take away drinks and maybe a muffin wouldn’t be expected to offer a toilet.
Full meal service is different, of course. Then again, those hidden gem cafes are all over the suburbs in Melbourne and the locals love them. I can’t see why anyone would be against one of those in the community, either.
After my last disastrous attempt at picking up this spare number plate, I’m trying again. There’s a teacher’s strike on, so I have a rare opportunity during office hours for this.
We left home at 7am, just got to the department of transport just now. It opens in 15 minutes. 8am on a Tuesday morning is obviously a busy time, since I’m 36th in the queue.
Ironically, Ms Faranda was politely asked by hosts of The Project to hand her baby to her partner last night after the child’s crying disrupted the interview.
HA!!
Yeah, I took the kids out all the time when they were babies. Shops, markets, cafes etc. I never took them to a cinema or a show, because that would be inconsiderate.
I’m all about parental rights, and absolutely all about parental facilities catering to dads. But my rights end at the point where they impinge on yours.
I drove past it, then tried to take the kids down. Only we didn’t get there until after it had wound up at 3pm. Station isn’t much different to what it was when only two platforms were open. There are still only two platforms in use, just platforms 1 & 4 instead of 1 & 2.
The big bridge of the Ellenbrook line to the centre of the Tonkin has also been finished and is a more impressive feat than the new station platforms.
I love his music (not so much this song). But the dude has been divorced four times - that tells me that whatever his relationship issues are, they’re probably on his end.
