Pantherina,

I for sure hope for the best.

Especially under load, KDE is a freezing mess. Copying back a backup (under 100GB) and I literally cannot move my cursor.

Meanwhile crashing programs make the shell unresponsive too. Like, there is no seperation?

The performance issues literally are so bad I considered moving back to Windows. Or GNOME with some Zorin/Oeron shell modifications. Probably GNOME, but many apps are unusable and they have no fractional scaling??

I am looking so much forward to cosmic, even though I dont see at all how it should be a complete desktop soon. But Wayland only, written in Rust, from scratch exactly for the modern use case… its awesome!

Like, KDE will never be memory safe, they are bound to Qt.

Pantherina,

So your family used SMS? Sms is horrible, you should just not use it.

If signal supported encrypted SMS that would be useful. DekuSMS is the only alternative here, as Silence is abandoned.

But it makes sense that they dont want to pretend SMS was a good standard.

Meanwhile, they use a phone number for anything, ironic

Pantherina,

The main reason Terminals suck is the lack of any guides.

Imagine a CLI interface without commands, just selecting. That would still work everywhere and be easy to maintain, but it would be easy to use.

Or just having cheatsheets available

<span style="color:#323232;">cheat(){
</span><span style="color:#323232;">curl cheat.sh/$1
</span><span style="color:#323232;">}
</span>

That makes Terminals useful for everyone

New to Linux? Ubuntu Isn’t Your Only Option (www.howtogeek.com)

Ubuntu’s popularity often makes it the default choice for new Linux users. But there are tons of other Linux operating systems that deserve your attention. As such, I’ve highlighted some Ubuntu alternatives so you can choose based on your needs and requirements—because conformity is boring.

Pantherina,

That are two unrelated or even contradictory scentences.

Gnome is waaay more reduced, so it has less bugs. It will work way better on stable Distros.

Also because of some things (KDE 4.0?) GNOME became the default Desktop, and Distros orient at its release cycles.

KDE has so many bugs and fixes that I think calling 5.27 “stable” is misleading.

Pantherina,

Ubuntu is not even good in my opinion. At least not as a normie Distro.

Yes they have lots of docs online but “it is good because people think it is good” is not a good argument.

If you dont like GNOME I guess you will have a harder life anyways, as Distros with KDE are just a really hard task. Like anything stable is not a good idea, I at least reported 30 bugs that will never get backported fixes.

The fact that appimages are broken on Ubuntu is like the only thing that I completely understand and dont care about. Appimages needs to get their stuff together.

I hope many projects will convert from Appimage to Flatpak

github.com/…/Appimage-To-Flatpak

Pantherina,

Then write that there, nobody reads it here…

Pantherina,

Nobody cares lol this is just a Lemmy post of that link. Nobody sees your comment and you can register anonymously for signal discuss using altadress or whatever
