In 2021 I did a review of my first three kickstarters. I've completed another two since then, and I'm on number six.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this first review I did

Anyone in the sphere used Facebook advertising for a kickstarter? Was it worth it?

I don't feel like copying the long thread I wrote on another network, but I can't wait to see Dune: Part 2 again.

To finally see the film I imagined on vacation in Italy 25 years ago is a slap in the face.

@rdonoghue I don't suppose you have any knowledge or information about printing ttrpg cards for games?

Best practices, tips and tricks?

PlaneSailingGames,
@PlaneSailingGames@chirp.enworld.org avatar

@rdonoghue thanks, I hadn’t thought of card sleeves and totally should have!

Do you know off hand whether dtrpg wants pdfs with one card per page (page is size of card) or a sheet with several cards on a sheet? (I’ll look on their site but find it hard to find guidance there!)

PlaneSailingGames,
@PlaneSailingGames@chirp.enworld.org avatar

@rdonoghue no worries! If I find the location I’ll as it to this thread so other people can see it

Coming soon to Kickstarter! The Long Road Home. Inspired by the idea of the hobbits returning to the Shire and talking about their adventures they had along the way - the friends which they made (and lost) and how victory was won. And how some of them returned to a heroes welcome, or to the love of their lives... while Frodo found that the Shire was saved - but not for him.

Plays in 2-4 hours for 2-5 people. A deck of playing cards and numerous prompts help you create your realm, your enemy, the focus of your quest and your characters.
Choose which genre of story you want to tell - whether a children's tale, a young adult adventure, standard heroic fare, something grimdark, or straight up horror. Genre tropes help you identify story elements you want to bring up, and the Genre helps set the tone of the ending

...lighter and more wholesome in children's tales, much more downbeat for horror stories.

Please sign up on the page to hear when the project starts, and I'd love it if you could share this widely.

Thanks!

Hi @chobbs - I played Fedora Noir recently and loved it, so I wrote a little review and account of our game

@chobbs

I’m interested in producing a game which is based on cards like Fedora Noir is - do you have any advice on producing in that format? Anything useful you could point me to?

Thanks!

Valentine’s Day games for lovers - what are your favourites?

I’d like to recommend my Love & Barbed Wire, a 2-player letter-writing game. One of you is the soldier in the trenches, the other is their loved one back home. Writing short letters across 5 chapters, discover their hopes, fears, and whether their love survives the war!

After three years using the Tesla app connected to a Model 3 and now getting to “experience” the Toyota app connected to a Toyota car it’s just so so bad. Tesla doesn’t get everything right but they really do have a great app-first experience with lots of quality of life features and options. And it doesn’t require a separate subscription to use, either.

PlaneSailingGames,
@PlaneSailingGames@chirp.enworld.org avatar

@tcook What Toyota have you got?

I'm thinking about a new(ish) car, my last one was a Toyota but it was from 2005 and I guess things might have moved on a little since then!

🆕 blog! “Envelopes and GDPR”

Privacy is a funny concept, isn't it? Very few people want the whole world to know what medical complaints they have. But most hospitals are open-access buildings, where the waiting rooms have large monitors to tell patients that their doctor is running late. A few years ago I was sat in the proctology waiting room. […]

@Edent

I was surprised by this line

"Would going digital solve this? Email is mostly end-to-end encrypted between the big providers, so it would be unlikely that anyone saw it as it was being delivered."

I thought that email was still almost entirely unencrypted and visible to anyone who it passes by along the way? Encryption (and signing) seem to have foundered on the public key distribution problem in the past.

What has changed?

@brouhaha @eselet @GossiTheDog I don’t know if any of you guys have watched “For All Mankind” on AppleTV+ but the premise behind the show is that it takes place in an alternate reality where the Russians landed on the moon first. Thus changing the trajectory of the space race and all the developments that come with it. Wonder what would have happened if OS/2 Warp got the desktop market first? Would IBM have been a better steward?

PlaneSailingGames,
@PlaneSailingGames@chirp.enworld.org avatar

@fellows @brouhaha @eselet @GossiTheDog

I would think that IBM would have been even worse than Microsoft. Considering their ‘mid-life kicker’ approach to mainframes for instance.
