I notice that the Apple Podcasts app lets you request a specific podcast to be played and it just does it. I wondered if that was an Apple secret sauce thing, but I just said to Siri “play the rest is politics podcast” and overcast started up, switched to the most recent one of that podcast and started playing on the lock screen.

I don’t know how long this feature has been here, but it’s brilliant. Thankyou!

Say I want to build a static website in which I can use Markdown & syntax highlighting and have a nice CSS framework to make pages responsive and look nice.

What do I use in 2023?

In 2018 I used jekyll/middleman and bootstrap.

Requirement: has to not fall apart in 2 years

@mrnugget I’m still using Jekyll (uploading to a static site on azure) and it still does the job fine.

Your last comment suggests that you’re having problems with Jekyll?

If aquatic creatures that were contemporaries to the dinosaurs still existed, which bodies of water would be the most suitable habitats? I assume that it would be mostly the tropical waters, but really don't know.

@drevrpg my recollection from dinosaur days was that there was a preponderance of shallow, warm seas. So those would be the most suitable habitats nowadays (although there were probably stuff in all kinds of environments)

@pauldjohnston I can only see the headline above the paywall, but that seems atrocious. So they are saying that the interest rates are so high that if you are earning above the threshold where you have to pay, you are only covering the interest on the loan?

    Point of random curiosity: In 5e D&D, what do high level characters do?

    No snark in the question - I'm genuinely thinking through the feel of high level play, since I've never gotten past low teens at the table. So, I know they can just go into bigger dungeons, sure, and even if they're not well supported, it wouldn't be hard to bring in stronghold building, or Birthright rules.

    So my core question is: beyond those things, what do high level 5e characters do? (If anything).

    @rdonoghue I don’t think he is active on mastodon, but @kevinkulp would be worth asking this question about - he has taken campaigns to very high levels in most editions of D&D, and has a lot of experience in running very high level campaigns. He may well have got 5e campaigns up to that level.

    I have far too many Twitter friends and accounts who have paid for the subscription who are clearly not Musk supporters - because of their content and historical opinions - that I've come to the conclusion that a high number of people with a blue tick aren't right wing fascists

    @pauldjohnston I’ve seen an artist on twitter explain that $8 is a marketing expense that he has to pay in order to continue to make a living on twitter. Nothing more and nothing less. He posted this in response to someone complaining that he will never buy the chaps art again as ‘he is supporting hate’ by having a blue check mark.

    I felt really sorry for the artist, and I’m saddened that so many will apparently be judge and jury over someone for something like this.

    @Homebrewandhacking @pauldjohnston I’m afraid I disagree - I think that is a terribly reductionist approach, a ‘guilt by association’ assertion which perhaps reflects your personal privilege in being free to choose, while other people whose business depends upon the functioning of twitter do not have that choice.
