To Hereford again with sis this afternoon.
Charity shops galore ... sign of the times that what were really snazzy high street name stores are now rather snazzy charity shops :(

Found this ukulele missing a string and a tad grubby looking sorry for itself. Now cleaned and tuned "my dog has fleas" in proper manner.

It'll be back in another charity shop on Monday, my pleasure taken this past hour or two.

:))

Today Find My Past has launched a new rather quirky database: Warwickshire Coventry Vehicle Registrations 1921-1924.

Am finding more success by using the "Advanced options - optional keywords" search because the records are record cards where there is a variety of fields and folk, naturally, filled them in in a variety of ways.

At first sight an uninspiring list of car registration numbers. But drill down you find long defunct car makers, famous car models and owners/addresses

It's funny to see people write my name as Danïel Lakens or Daniel Läkens or Lakëns. They know there are these weird dots somewhere. In Dutch, Daniel would have 2 syllables and rhyme with 'kneel', while Daniël has 3 syllables and rhymes with 'well'. The dots make 'ie' into 'i-e'.

My mom had a brother and uncle named Gaius which the family always pronounced Gay-eye-us ... emphatically three syllables. And that's how I pronounce that name because that's what they called them and no doubt would have called themselves.

You have my support in spelling and saying your name as you choose :)

Does anyone have a link to a daily/weekly/monthly chore list that's more realistic for people with ADHD?

I want to do a better job of taking care of my home, but I can only find lists that are like "daily chores: clean the entire house top to bottom" and that's just not gonna happen for me.

This "do a bit and cross it off" business ... I once did an audit at a business that ran its (newly computerised) sales ledger like that. Programmers had no idea about double entry bookkeeping.

"Has the customer paid our invoice?"

"Yes"

"Righty-ho! Invoice marked as paid!"

"But ... but ... they actually overpaid their LAST invoice slightly and we put the surplus against this one ... so most of it is not paid!"

"And the system won't ask the customer for the outstanding amount."

My latest creation, Frankenstein-like ... a diddley-bow or single string guitar.

I only mark the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 12th fret positions. The rest are guesstimates between them.

Tuned G so the fret marks are on A#, C, D and G octave.

It rings rather nicely with good sustain.

In other respects it sounds dreadful ... which is 👍👍👍😎

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

Minor upgrade to the diddley bow. Chrome tin pierced fruit bowl put in place of the brassy swirley resonator.

The bridge is precisely 630 from the nut which left the previous marks for A#, C, D and G Octave correct.

Have also cleaned off some of the construction marks.

Will slowly fall into shape :))

Inexplicably I started reading about county boundary anomalies called enclaves, exclaves and salients (?!?) that affect us all at some point.

This page here is about a small area just west of Birmingham.

Oh, btw, these are administrative boundaries, I believe, not religious/ecclesiastical boundaries.

I doubt their slogan was "Votes for Women but only if they've got Photo ID!"

They'll be turning in their graves at the voter suppression, aimed at both men and women, indulged in by the current government.

Beautiful display. I planted my bulbs about 3 & a half years ago in four patches.

Three patches have a few appearing each year, the 4th (the wet inundated patch that's most like a floodplain) had one the first year but never again.

I know their life cycle is odd and not many flower but I treasure them nevertheless.

Not at all surprising, really. At the back of the organ case there's a plaque explaining in greater detail ... but didn't get to photograph it this afternoon.

The same year Austin launched yesterday’s rather dowdy Maxi, 1969, the company also released the much more go-ahead Zanda concept. The Zanda was designed to be powered by a mid-mounted Maxi engine/gearbox combination. The wedge shape later influenced the Princess and TR7, while the idea of flipping around a transverse FWD powertrain to make a mid-engined car was later seen with the Metro and MGF. Snapped at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon.

160 year old fat: In 1864, the steamship "Jura" sank to the bottom of Lake Constance due to a collision. The accident was soon forgotten. About 100 years later, the wreck was re-discovered - a fascinating time capsule. One of the many finds: a pot still filled with lard.

On display at Seemuseum Kreuzlingen, Switzerland

Today, we’re back on the Minis. This is a 1965 Mini Traveller, a small estate version of the Mini with a similar silhouette to the Mini van. Note the wooden pillar treatment, which is visually similar to that previously seen on the Morris Minor Traveller. I believe the wood is structural on the Minor but purely decorative on the Mini. Snapped at The Great British Car Journey in Derbyshire.
