The least productive have been separate private trees.

The most productive are floating (with"Floating" in the suffix field of the name) so are essentially public ... but if I omit the date of death/make "living" it makes them invisible.

The latter quite often eventually flash up a hint as to a parent who is in my tree from earlier working "downhill"

Basically it's what thrulines does!

Draft trees = floating trees on Ancestry ... very useful indeed.

Sometimes I'm in two minds whether the exploratory nature means I should anonymise by eg leaving off dates of death in my public tree.

Alternatively there are always valid records attached so in that sense they are true trees but not necessarily ever going to be attached properly to mine.

Morning. I am sleeping so very badly at the moment. I probably got about six hours in total, but so broken, with long wakeful periods. Feeling jaded, where is the emoji for that?

I wasn’t online much yesterday, so I didn’t introduce a new addition to the household, who arrived in the post yesterday, courtesy of @sheepnik! I’ll post pics later.

Hope you’re feeling perkier than me, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing…

Am taking a friend to Snodhill Castle in the Marcher country of Herefordshire.

Will post pics later.

We went last summer for the celebration of the chapel that had been given a proper archaeology dig.

Absolute pain to get to!

I’m trying to chill on the patio but someone is using some sort of noisy machine on the other side of the stream and Tom has just announced his intention to mow the lawn, so I think peace and quiet is out of the question. Boo to noise on a Sunday

Has anyone had the new beta matches list?

I really don't like it and have submitted feedback to that effect.

On my android tablet it's really slow and clunky.

Only the first few words of my notes are now shown.

Having to click through to successive pages of matches is a pest.

It might work OK on a modern pc with lots of memory but for me it's a retrograde step.

Makes things deeply unpleasant :((

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

Also, the beta match list no longer let's you click straight through to matches trees (ie no blue link)

And having to open out the search window and not be able to see what the search is if you close it (or forget that you are looking at selected list matches!) Is a pest.

I could understand it if are trying to slow down/reduce pressure on their servers when folk are doing searches of matches.

But this is clunky.

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

@PostcardsFromParadise

From what I can tell this beta matches page revamp adds zero new functionality and is a pain for me to use. I doubt this will be touted as "Pro Tools"

When the pro tools availability goes worldwide there was talk of one new DNA tool replicating what My Heritage already does ... See the DNA relationship between shared matches ie currently we see only the separation between us and a single match. There's promise of us seeing the separation between others who we Match

Good morning, I had a long, deep sleep which I must’ve really needed. Dreamed I went to the chip shop to get fish and chips for a group of us, but they gave me a very fat live seal to carry home in my arms instead 🤷‍♀️ What’s up with you today?

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

@purplepadma

Now, after your "Seal instead of a bag of chips" dream, am pondering my "trying to rewire an electric plug" dream that had the bits repeatedly changing so I couldn't do it (screws going from slotted to cross head, two core wire to three, ... & more of the same).

In this vein I sometimes have the "balancing a set of accounts" variation where things get quite (in)tense :(

One of the big debates around the forthcoming election is the adoption of tactical voting & its use to 'punish' the Tories.

There's lots of media commentary about this, but as always @sjwrenlewis offers an interesting take on the issue.

In the end he concludes one of the key democratic aspirations of this election must be to deny the Tories the post-election position of remaining the 'official' opposition.... & tactical voting may/can achieve that end!

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 @sjwrenlewis

So, if the Tories become 2nd largest party by a whisker over the LDs any One Nation Tory MPs who survive the cataclysm who want to exert influence over events could defect to the LDs.

Am thinking especially if the Tory rump tacks even further rightwards.

ChrisMayLA6, to random
@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us avatar

Perhaps understanding that their time in government might be limited (as it always is, eventually), the Tories, like governments before them (but perhaps a little more stridently), have been filling public sector & related positions with supporters - its a sort of echo of POTUS ability to secure the Supreme Court for years to come....

Is it any worse than previous Governments? Well it may be, but that might be because they've been at it for 15 years!

Different but same sentiment ... I bought some pills in Boots on Tuesday taking in the empty container to compare.

They had a recycling bin. I asked the lady on the till if I could put the empty in the recycling. She said to do that I needed to log in.

No, says I.

OK, I'll put it in the rubbish for you, says she.

The one in the Daily Mail explaining to potential Reform voters what "Tactical Voting" is.

How it's a "Bad Thing".

Yes, that Daily Mail.

I suspect the poll isn't really for the eyes of those of us who actually might quite like a change of govt.

The UK GRO website for post 1837 UK births that morphs into FreeBMD around 1911 for confirming mothers' maiden names. It can be tedious but helps disambiguation.

I've only been using it about 12 months so a slow process to verify the wilder branches.

Don't start calling Rishi Sunak a D Day Dodger.

Just don't!

The term refers to the allied soldiers who'd fought their way up through Italy fighting often with reduced resources as preparations were made for the Normandy landings.

Call him what you like but Sunak is no D Day Dodger.
