RvTV95XBeo,

While the link between animal agriculture and environmental harm is well established, earlier studies used scientific modeling to reach those conclusions. By contrast, the Oxford research drew from the actual diets of 55,500 people — vegans, vegetarians, fish-eaters and meat-eaters — in the United Kingdom and used data from some 38,000 farms in 119 countries.

RvTV95XBeo,

I work for a big company that participates in the carbon market. While we try our best to vet our credit purchases, only buying from sources that are backed by credible 3rd parties etc., the fact is that it’s pretty much the wild west out there.

Even certified credits come with some unknowns and risks, and the only reason they’re even remotely affordable is because people/businesses out there are burning their money on junk credits.

The offsets market is in need of serious reform - here’s to hoping this is a step in the right direction.

Not sure how tough you’ve been on the pack but it may be worth letting them know - you may not have to buy a new one.

Also famously flexible warranty, www.osprey.com/us/en/…/return-authorization

RvTV95XBeo,

This heat is the new normal. Even if we meet the climate crisis head on, we’re stuck with this heat for decades.

RvTV95XBeo,

Excellent points, and good examples! Reminds me of the old zero waste adage: “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.” Every step in the right direction helps.

RvTV95XBeo,

Plus, even when you do find what you’re looking for elsewhere, are Walmart, Target, and Home Depot really so benevolent? The odds of me finding what I need from a small locally owned business (at least in my area) are pretty slim.

RvTV95XBeo,

Definitely had issues with quality and/or damage, haven’t gotten a true counterfeit yet to my knowledge, but I can at least partially attribute that to the fact that I almost never buy things that aren’t shipped/sold by either Amazon or the manufacturer.

When I shop I usually search for something on Amazon, check if the manufacturer has a website & it is comparably priced, check if the local stores (Target, etc.) stock it at a fair price, and if all else fails I buy through Amazon (after checking CamelCamelCamel to verify I’m getting a good deal).

RvTV95XBeo,

Nature getting pretty clever trying to fight back against climate change

RvTV95XBeo,

Add-ons give you a lot more choice and control than baked in options.

What’s stopping Brave’s blocker from just allowing ads from Brave’s services? Can you see under the hood to tell if it’s blocking everything or just surface level stuff?

A proprietary built in blocker is only as trustworthy as the people that made it, and as the links in this discussion suggest, Brave isn’t earning much trust.

RvTV95XBeo,

Thinking about making the jump to grapheneos, the only thing holding me back is my addiction to Android Auto

RvTV95XBeo,

If you make the switch you won’t be able to tell people you use Arch, so keep that in mind.

RvTV95XBeo,

In California there’s a native wood strawberry that looks a lot like this. They’re also amazing but so tiny

RvTV95XBeo,

www.cnn.com/2023/03/29/health/…/index.html

Guns are the leading cause of death for US children and teens, since surpassing car accidents in 2020.

In no other comparable country are firearms within the top four causes of mortality among children, according to a KFF analysis.

RvTV95XBeo,

That looks terrible, but I will note (though they are confined to communities) I have a similar growing blocklist on Lemmy. It seems every day I find a new meme or “let’s all complain about Reddit” community to block.

I’m here for OC and interesting discussion, but I keep stumbling over low effort posts throughout my feed.

RvTV95XBeo,

You can experiment on a separate piece of wood with some stains and paints, but in my (albeit very amateur) experience filler is hard to color after the fact, especially if you’ve already oiled it.

My take is it’s easiest to mix your own color match using colored fillers, fill, then seal. You want to color match the final finished/oiled wood, since the filler does not change color with finishing, unlike raw wood.

RvTV95XBeo,

I don’t see why that has to stop you! Post it here and maybe it’ll find its way into that other site by some other means. I hear they’re desperate for content, given the massive outflux of users.

RvTV95XBeo,

A lot of people mentioning things like Privacy Badger, NoScript, ClearURLs, Ghostery, etc. Can anyone explain to me what benefit these provide over a properly configured uBO setup?

My understanding is these are all redundant, and just serve to slow things down or provide ways to leak your data (looking at you Ghostery…)

Also saw a comment about Multi Account Containers. I don’t see this as necessary, at least in my case, ever since they introduced first party cookies isolation by default. The only application I see is if you want to log into the same website with two different accounts, e.g., using Outlook for work and personal email on the same machine.

tl;dr - FF+uBO=dream team
