I was a postmortem scientist for a decade, and have a show called After Death, which focuses on SFX makeup and embalming, based on gruesome ways people have died! It’s on a page called Bad Day HQ which focuses on the worst days in history… crime, death, natural disasters, conspiracies, cryptuds, etc. Honestly best side gig ever. I love being teach people about really morbid stuff.

My work. This was shot at the Anatomy of Death Museum in Michigan… And the channel itself. They won Emmy awards back in the 90s/2000s

It has:

  • Mine disasters, where companies shut off oxygen, sacrificing people, so they wouldn’t lose profits
  • Deadliest human stampedes, where people were so concerned with getting to events that they trampled, crushed, and suffocated hundreds of people
  • Famines that wiped out large percentages of entire countries, that mirror what’s happening right now
  • History behind the Bermuda Triangle and the stories of planes and ships that have vanished there
  • Stories of some of the darkest crimes in history… from serial killers to gruesome, morbid deaths
  • Disasters and crimes that happened On This Day!

I’m really proud and have a plethora of knowledge, so please ask away. Actually ran the Wayne State Funeral History Museum for 3 years 🥰

I fucking paid my taxes to protect me from poverty if I became disabled… little did I know that disability only pays 11k/year and if you have more than $2k in the bank or in valuables, they take away your food and Medicaid. That $2k asset limit hasn’t changed since 1974. We can’t fix a vehicle on that, we can’t pay our rent, we can’t survive on max $2k at any given time. If adjusted for inflation, it would be $13k. That’s enough to survive on.

Furries are some of the kindest people out there. They raise massive amounts of money and items for charity; are generally very accepting and inclusive; and they are normally very talented and creative sewists too. Don’t lump them in. They’re misunderstood and bullied for it.

If you missed more than 10 days of work at any job, it’s likely you’ll be fired, so they can just pull themselves up by the boot-straps and find another job.

As a kid, we were so poor, it was scary. I remember living in a car, having to choose between going hungry or eating food that was past its prime, and learning Santa wasn’t real too young (I couldn’t understand why my friends got expensive dream gifts… I thought I had been good)

After going through all that and my mom overdosing, I started collecting things that would accumulate value or were an investment. Comic books and figurines are my go to, but I’ve also got machines for creating cosplays (as that’s my career now). I won’t buy anything that I can’t pawn off in an emergency to survive, or use it to make money. I really should have been collecting coins/gold/silver, but I picked what was fun.

Also, shoutout to my elementary school’s lunch lady, who noticed a tiny, thin girl using the free lunch program, and offered her seconds, after everyone else had been served. I don’t think she knows how much she touched my life.

I minored in business law and read them. It terrifies me what people agree to without reading… McDonald’s, TikTok, and snapchat just added clauses to their terms of service that say users are not allowed to participate in Class Action Lawsuits. Unfortunately the Supreme Court was swayed by AT&T in 2019 so now every business is doing this so they can’t get sued by groups, just individuals who they KNOW can’t afford to hire a lawyer and fight.

They have to allow an opt out option, though, so always Control F and find the class action and opt out section to make sure you don’t get screwed out of your rights.

It sucks having an allium intolerance… no one will take my garlic from me though, even if it makes me miserable later

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

It’s hard. I still eat garlic on occasion, even though it makes me sick. Luckily, I’ve always had a bad reaction with an onion, so my body rejects the flavor too

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

Yup! Those are just the tops of an onion plant

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

I can have a bit of onion powder, but dried onions wreck my stomach

Per copyright law in the United States, the designs must be 15% different to create one’s own artistic copyright. They’re several that are close, but 15% isn’t that much. Obviously Nintendo isn’t a US company, but it’ll be interesting to set how this goes

I minored in business law and we were taught this

I’m so glad that someone leaked that Roe v. Wade was getting overturned. I scheduled my sterilization and I’m so so happy. There is still a LONG waitlist to get sterilized.

No babies, no periods, no cramps, no mood swings, life is good. (Bilateral Salpingectomy and Endometrial Ablation are an awesome combo)

Fun fact! California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Vermont allow for human composting as a form of body disposition; like cremation or burial.

How does this mean that people won’t have to scan their cards and prove themselves at checkout, when they allow anyone inside for the pharmacy, optical center, and to purchase alcohol?

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you for this. It’s a pretty shit article when they don’t show the comparison.

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

Yet disability pays $11k a YEAR that’sthe same as $5.42/hour.

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

If we have more than $2k in assets, a number that hasn’t changed since 1974, we lose our food and Medical on SSI, too… it’s ridiculous

Idk if mine is weird or cool or just sappy… I’ve had a service dog for 9 years. He turns 10 in a few days and I’m not coping well with the fact that he’s aging. Time has flown and it’ll never feel like enough.

One of my friends makes incredible needlefelt art. For example this is a Pabu from Legend of Korra that she made for me. When I’m brushing my dog, I’ve been collecting his shed fur; that way, when he passes, I can have a needlefelt statue made of him. He’s a malamute, so there’s PLENTY of fur.

Cherish every moment you get with your pets… it feels like you blink and years have passed.

He really is. I got him from a shelter and he figured out how to detect my seizures on his own. I like to think that we rescued each other. 😊

A Far-Right Court Just Admitted a Truth That Abortion Foes Want to Hide (slate.com)

When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it claimed to be removing the judiciary from the abortion debate. In reality, it simply gave the courts a macabre new task: deciding how far states can push a patient toward death before allowing her to undergo an emergency abortion....

Shelbyeileen,
@Shelbyeileen@lemmy.world avatar

I’m so glad I got my tubes removed when I did, because there’s a long waitlist now. My sister just gave birth and had severe complications … I cannot imagine if we had lost her over a law like this. It sounds harsh, but you can always make another baby if the uterus is saved (or adopt one of the hundreds of thousands of orphans in the USA).

New Zealand banned pseudo, because of meth problems, and my family there won’t even use decongestants because it won’t work. They still have meth problems, but no relief from illness. The melatonin is prescription only, too, which is weird to me

I know this is four months old, but I’m getting nonstop gambling ads after googling how to block them and its driving me insane. I hate that I’m not alone in ad hell… I’ve lost people because of gambling addiction and it is RIDICULOUS that there isn’t a way to block ads for things that are dangerous, if they become addictive.
