SlopppyEngineer,

And a lot of these face recognition systems are notoriously bad with dark skin tones.

SlopppyEngineer,

One theory says gold currency was invented for military campaigns. Kings of old didn’t need currency as they could just demand someone give or make them what they wanted, including mining for more gold. But soldiers need food, so a serious campaign means a lot of logistics. Or you could give them gold so they could buy stuff. And to make sure there is enough gold and people actually want to sell stuff the king imposes taxes.

SlopppyEngineer,

They give simple answers to difficult questions, and many people that have a pretty black-and-white view of reality really like that.

SlopppyEngineer,

…and it comes right after our fiduciary responsibility to shareholders.

SlopppyEngineer,

Sounds like a law so gig workers are paid by the hour would solve more.

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google’s new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won’t slide off (pssst…please don’t do this.)...

SlopppyEngineer,

And after the MBA’s, private equity firms take over, and eventually it’s sold for parts.

SlopppyEngineer,

We often say we’re waiting for the horse to bolt so we finally have permission to close the barn door.

SlopppyEngineer,

By now it should be a hard carbon budget and not a simple tax that can be dodged.

SlopppyEngineer,

Never trust food that takes longer to eat than to cook.

SlopppyEngineer,

“If it’s on the internet it must be true” implemented in a billion dollar project.

SlopppyEngineer,

“We’re not here to defend Israel,” says soldier of Israel Defense Force, “we’re here to conquer and don’t you dare stop us.”

I believe that’s what the tl;dr is

SlopppyEngineer,

Personal responsibility something something

SlopppyEngineer,

Correcting over a decade of Reddit shitposting in what, a few weeks? They’re pretty ambitious.

SlopppyEngineer,

All that could have been avoided by having a drop pod launched to the surface containing a mechanical avatar. The crew member just sits down in a chair to remotely control the avatar using an FTL link for instant control. Of course the avatar has a hologram projector so it looks exactly like the crew member. But that would be too safe and not dramatic enough.

SlopppyEngineer,

They know, and they know it’s deadly long term, but the money from pushing ads to users like they’re making foie gras is just too good. That’s what MBAs in charge gets you.

SlopppyEngineer,

we’re all just gonna hold hands into the apocalypse

More likely departments or the entire company, if valuation drops too low, is sold to a private equity firm. Profits from the sale get showered over the shareholders. The private equity firm is going to drastically restructure Google and if that doesn’t work give it a few more squeezes to get the profit out and sell the tech for parts. That’s the standard play book.

SlopppyEngineer,

That’s true up to a certain level. Then a moment comes where the pain of using it becomes bigger than the convenience and there is an exodus. Some call that the trust thermocline . Or as some say how they went bankrupt as first gradually, then suddenly.

SlopppyEngineer,

“He may be a fascist dictator, but he’s OUR fascist dictator, telling it like it is. Not like Biden with his fascist Antifa troups.” ~ The average Trump voter

SlopppyEngineer,

The trick is getting enough food out of the ground to survive on. Turns out that’s a lot of work.

SlopppyEngineer,

You have to type “Fall Guy series” to get the result. The result from “Fall Guy” is about the movie and that’s a normal response.

SlopppyEngineer,

Usually investors want a business case first. Note they have free every they can sell later. Battery installations will appear.

SlopppyEngineer,

Investments in AI are in the billions. With that kind of money flying around, it’s going to attract a lot of snake oil salesmen. It didn’t help that for the general public and investors, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, and LLMs reached that point for many.

Just keep the hype cycle in mind. It’ll all go downhill after the point of inflated expectations. With AI, it always does.

SlopppyEngineer,

It can’t be bargained with, it can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity! Or remorse or fear and it absolutely will not stop!.. ever… until you are dead!

Yeah, that’s humans for you
