This might be an unpopular opinion but I mostly liked season 1. It wasn’t perfect by any means but I think it did a lot of things right. I never wanted a TNG reunion (I still very much enjoyed season 3) but a story about an elderly Picard who has moved on. He has new friends, new things to do. Because that’s life. You don’t spend your entire life doing the exact same thing with the exact same people. And a lof of older folks nowadays feel useless and left behind. Giving them a positive role model in TV would have been nice. But unfortunately the writers/producers decided to do one of those end-of-the-universe stories that spans the entire season. That’s what dragged the season down for me.

Do yourself a favor and watch SNW. It’s the best Trek since DS9. It’s a nice blend of different Trek iterations, and reception has been overwhelmingly positive.

I’ve been watching Trek since the early 90s and SNW ranks in my top 3 Star Trek series. I also have a friend who grew up with TOS in the 70s and never really liked the new Trek shows (for him, “new” means any Star Trek produced after 1969) and he absolutely loves SNW.

Give it a try, watch the first 4-5 episodes and see for yourself. It’s really good.

Yes. And I doubt this will change anytime soon. Maybe in a few years AI upscales are good enough to remaster old TV shows at low costs. But until then, we’re stuck with this. Which I don’t mind that much, to be honest. It’s a product of its time, like every piece of art.

So there are several special Riker action figures but no “regular” Riker action figure with a proper uniform? There’s only the one with the torn uniform top.

Weird decision.

Excerpt regarding the story:

!While plot details haven’t been shared, we do have an understanding of when the movie will take place decades before the original 2009 Star Trek film. This is very confusing, as the 2009 star trek film takes place across multiple years, and multiple timelines. This might mean decades before the main events of the movie. The main events of 2009 take place in the Kelvin Timeline in 2255. However the Kelvin timeline only started in 2233. So if this takes place anytime before 2233, it would be canonical to both the Kelvin and Prime timeline.!<

!The other option is that it takes place decades before the events of the movie in the prime timeline, in 2387. An option this movie has is to tie into the backstory of Star Trek: Picard, and possibly even explain why the Romulan Sun went supernova in the first place! I doubt this will be the case, as it will probably be set in the Kelvin Timeline, sometime after the Narada destroys the U.S.S. Kelvin.!<

Sounds to me like it’ll be >!taking place in the prime timeline either way!<.

Oops, you’re right. I just saw the publication date. Well, ignore the post then. I doubt that this movie will actually happen anyway. 😄

This sounds pretty good actually because it addresses my main concern with DISCO after the time jump. There has been almost no world building in the last two seasons. The 32nd century still feels like a blank canvas and a wasted opportunity. Particularly season 4 could have taken place during any other era without needing to change anything about the story.

And that they don’t drag out the mystery is a huge plus too.

I’m much more optimistic about season 5 now.

Default font size could be too small for most people.

I agree. I’d say that I have somewhat good eyesight but I had to bump everything one size up.

I have my phone on default settings (regarding display/size). It’s perfect on every other app and the OS UI in general. It’s just small in Sync. Bumping everything up one size makes it identical to every other app and the OS.

Canon Connections: 2x07 - Those Old Scientists

• In the episode “No Small Parts” Ransom explains to Captain Freeman that he calls the 2260s the ”TOS Era” in honour of ”Those Old Scientists” like Spock and and Scotty. Of course, this episode takes place in 2259, so clearly it’s time for a shake-up among the SNW production team....

Worf suffered discommendation and was stripped of his honour in “Sins of the Father”.

By the time Boimler is around Worf had gotten his honour back…and lost it again, and got it back… I think. It’s hard to keep track. But his family honor was restored in "Redemption’ for helping Gowron in the civil war.

Cast recording for this week’s episode is up, I’ve only listened to one early track to avoid spoilers but sounds like they’ve nailed it.

About the popularity of 2 button navigation

Ever since its appearance in Android Pie, I always consider 2 button navigation is a bad attempt by Google trying to play catch-up with the fad generated by the iPhone X. However, due to a bug with A13 QPR2 it had to be temporarily removed and many were not happy about this. So, 2 button navigation users, may I ask why do you...

UESPA_Sputnik,
@UESPA_Sputnik@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not using two-button navigation but there was one nice thing it did in Android 9: you could flip the pill to the right and hold it to scroll through open apps until you’ve reached the app you wanted to switch to (or move your finger left/right to scroll in that direction), and only then lift the finger.

Unfortunately that only worked in Android 9. In Android 10 you could only swipe to the very next app. Not sure why they butchered that carousel navigation; probably to bring it in line with full gesture navigation.

It was present at the end of the episode where Voyager got the future Borg technology. This scene from the linked script is the scene from the very beginning of the episode which depicts a timeline in which Voyager returns to Earth without that Borg encounter.

Wasn’t a fan of the holodeck episodes either. But they needed to produce 26 episodes a year. I don’t blame them for doing some filler episodes.
