I'm considering blocking fosstodon, the admins seem to not really care about violations of their own rules. 😞 Are there any other FLOSS friendly instances?

People complain about daylight savings time, and quote mythical "suicide rates go" up "research" .. As someone living around the 60 parallel .. I can tell that the five minutes a year to set your watch to get a bit more sunlight is absolutely worth it.

I spend more time changing to winter/summer tires each year, and getting the car checked. Whiners is what I think...

Calling on all able bodied / HDL hackers to help me with getting the working on some half modern !

I have no strong opinions, the previous design worked on Spartan 6. The Arty looks nice. ICE40 might be too small, I dunno...

And those people that complain about projects being "hostile", "toxic" ... probably should try to be kinder.

How is your weekend? Mine is two side by side, and talking to another hacker over Converse.

Who wants to make a Mastodon client for so I can toot things? (I would suggest, a Chaosnet service, where you configure most of the stuff, and you send a too in the payload)".

revolution is nigh!

(There have been more releases of the this half century than Hurd releases .. gets you thinking).

If had release music, then for System 300 it would be Cat Stevens' Can't keep it in .. revolution is nigh!

Oh .. I can't keep it in, I can't keep it in, I've gotta let it out .. I've got to show the world, world's gotta know

Veganism is beyond silly -- one calls on ethical treatment for animals .. only from humans. But not call on ethical treatment from animals towards animals. If veganism was ethical, the foxes would stop eating chickens.

The ethical choice is to be aware of why one eats something .. where your food comes from -- to try and make a smaller imprint on this little water ball. That is something that has been lost, and perverted by corporations.

Eat local, eat seasonal, eat wild.

With #GNU turning 40, and the @fsf turning ?? (pop quiz! https://hostux.social/@fsf/111177276677774798); my hope for is that we will take back control of the hardware we use, so that we can get rid of DRM, non-free blobware, magical boxes and make our computers respect the freedoms that all users deserve.

Weird thread on HN about "working offline" ... the weirdest recommendation is to setup a Bullshit Generator locally. I think I saw one that said essentially that you cannot do modern programming without Internet ... then again, this is HN. 😜

Rust exemplifies everything that is wrong with modern computing. For whatever reason, was upgrading my GNU/Linux system, and rust needs to be compiled/installed. On a modern machine, it is eating up all my 8 cores and all my memory and so far has been compiling for half an hour!

There is literally no reason why a compiler should eat this many resources to compile. #RustIsCrust #UnixVirus

40 years ... what a trip, and what a future awaits!

I remember first stumbling over the GNU manifesto so many years ago, logging in as rms on the (pre-!)GNU machines, a different, kinder time.

Chaosnet will have a wider spread than IPv6 by 2036. and -10 revolution is nigh.

@amszmidt@mastodon.social avatar

So this thing ... the issue isn't really that they change their ToS. The issue is that people fell for non-free software, on top of that ... that people are fuming over the price change is not really relevant.

People are upset over the wrong thing because they have not learned about the freedoms that they should have when it comes to their own computers.

Had they known, they would never had used Unity ...

Oh ok ok .. so counting the total system source code isn't fair, since "UNIX" is just a kernel (it's not ...). The Lisp Machine "kernel" is just 30k lines. revolution is nigh. looks for a door
