i'm kicking off 'broadcasting' on https://subcarrier.tv this evening (4-10) 7pm EDT with a selection of audiovisual albums from some of my friends in the video art community. you can follow @streams to get notified when streams begin! i'll be doing this specific event on a monthly basis, if theres folks out there in the fediverse who have long form (10 mins or long) a/v artworks or compilations of shorter artworks they'd like to have screened in future broadcasts hmu!

heres some important music made entirely on an msx computer using their FM cartridge. the original cd came with data files that you were expected to load into your own personal mx computer and play direct from the data. if i ever ended up buying one of those ridiculous 8088 books i'd probably only use it to make music exactly like this.

A distorted fern leaf.

This picture was created in several steps:

First, slowly moving the camera over the leaf. The result is a short movie, not yet the final still image.

Then split the frames of this movie into approximately 4200 individual images.

Now cut out a narrow circular strip from each image.

At the end, put all the strips together to form the final image.

Don't worry: I'm not doing it by hand. It's a combination of ffmpeg and self-written Java software.

theres a nice way to do this without storing every frame, if you know what "orientation" youd like for the final slitscan to operate in by only storing pixels thatll be used for the final image. however storing entire frames is great if youd like to make a slitscan video and need to have random access to every pixel in every frame
