The "faves on mastodon do nothing" posts are so annoying, not least of all because they are wrong. It's true that faves don't federate to all servers that saw the post, but faves are weighted the same as boosts in the trending posts feed.

When Trends are used, favouriting a post increases its visibility to the rest of your server, as well as others on the original server.
