the most important thing to remember while compiling Clang is that you're probably going to be still alive a week from now and so you don't really need to rush anywhere

@whitequark is compiling clang yuri?

@baldur do you know an alternative to shoelace? I have started to use it for a small personal project and I'm still at apoint where swapping for another tool would be feasible.

@baldur I wonder if bootstrap is still a thing and where it is on these topics

Is there any major #Python build tool that use โ€˜layโ€™ as a command to create an egg? Having to use โ€˜buildโ€™ feels like a wasted opportunity.

Still investigating for a small personal project : for a small web app without a backend, should I look for a minimal stable JS framework or should I go vanilla and only use a few components?

I donโ€™t think I want a full fledged framework because of the maintenance work since I donโ€™t use one at work that would keep me up to date.

i really dislike mypy

its main utility seems to be producing busywork and making your code worse with annotations

i don't expect i'll be ever using mypy in any of my projects

archiloque,
@archiloque@felin.social avatar

@whitequark @unlambda I wonder if Python type annotations will be used for runtime check one day, on one hand it feels inevitable, on the other hand people can block it

encountered an interesting anomaly: helldivers 2, a game with an unforgiving skill curve and which does not shy from overwhelming you nearly continuously (in a ragequit-inducing way), feels, and i want to underscore this is not a metaphor but a literal description of my feelings, safe and comfy with one particular teammate

there hasn't necessarily been a reason to expect this and i'm stll really surprised (but grateful; i could definitely use some light relaxing pastime)

Trying (for a test) to find a pixel-art tile with like a marble or stone texture, ideally but not necessarily royalty free, ideally but not necessarily either 10x10 or 20x20, and just struggling a lot because "marble tile" on Google gets you actual marble tiles."marble pixel tile" gets you physical marble tiles arranged in a pixel-like pattern

@baldur alternate suggestion: internal politics pushed people to pretend it wouldn't happen, even if people knew it was false

mjg59, to random
@mjg59@nondeterministic.computer avatar

A significant benefit Apple has is the ability to add new hardware features and integrate those into the OS (or vice-versa). That's much harder in the PC market (eg, back in the 2000s every Windows laptop had a different UI for wifi connectivity because that was supplied by the laptop or wifi vendor), and what progress there has been has been driven by Microsoft as part of the Windows hardware requirements. How does the free software world work with vendors to drive hardware design?

@whitequark for example you donโ€™t use an IDE, and I canโ€™t imagine the kind of software you use to develop FPGA tooling
