In our post-AI era, is job security strictly mythical? Or How to believe in careers as a concept worth doing?

With the lastest news of AI layoffs, I’m struggling to understand how the idea of a career still holds. If careers themselves effectively become gambles like lottery tickets, how do we maintain drive and hopes in the longterm endgame of our struggles?...

blarth,

How do you avoid the feeling of superficiality? That’s what I struggle with most. It just doesn’t really seem to matter.

blarth,

This resonates well with me. However, still struggling with the last sentence. I can’t ignore how superficial life has become for me. A therapist told me to consider my value for simply existing. There are days when I’m able to do that, but many in which nihilism takes over.

blarth,

I honestly can’t tell what is real or a joke anymore.

blarth,

12 years for accidentally bringing 4 rounds into a foreign country for a husband and father of two? Regardless of what you think of this guy, that is extreme.

blarth,

I understand lots of people aren’t familiar with guns and may be afraid of them, but loose ammo in a bag is harmless.

blarth,

Dual fans will opt for CFP vs regular season NFL games.

blarth,

The Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy ruined sci-fi for me for a while. In a good way.

blarth,

I have the QC 2 and they’re fantastic. I can’t imagine them being better.

blarth,

I can’t imagine why not. Though, you probably shouldn’t in order to protect your hearing.

blarth,

Google can do this, but can’t maintain Google assistant features we’ve had for years?

blarth,

Shit company. I remember seeing the articles quoting Michael Dell saying WFH was the greatest thing and other companies were too scared to do it. All they do is put other people’s shit in a case.

blarth,

This bitch had to go gay to find her G spot? Damn.

blarth,

That website seems to be in a competition with others to see how many stupid ad impressions they can land on your screen without completely sacrificing the actual text of the story.

blarth,

I was looking into this for a family member who wants to look like they’re in a location a couple hundred miles away occasionally. I think the only pitfall might be if they are made to use an authenticator that can query their GPS location in order to enact conditional policies that restrict their location.

blarth,

This movie was okay, but I don’t really consider it to be sci-fi. It’s more a political drama.

blarth,

Disagree.

blarth,

I’m fine with it, it’s just that the sci-fi is a thin veneer for the political message.

blarth,

Inception, Interstellar, Star Trek movies, Star Wars (originals), probably some I’m forgetting.

blarth,

It’s not that I don’t understand there are political themes in sci-fi. It’s that it felt like I was being beat over the head with it in D9. Also, just not a big fan of being told something wild exists in a movie but it’s never exposed because the budget doesn’t allow for it.

blarth,

Good God there are so many assumptions about my character based on this post. Thought I was escaping the Reddit hive mind mentality coming here, but seems like it’s the same shit in another place.

The message is fine. A refugee story. The plight of the impoverished. Fine. It might have landed better for me if there were more sci-fi aspects involved.

blarth,

In all honesty, the left trying to maintain the illusion that the economy is doing well because of job numbers makes me further question the authenticity of government statistics. The job market is absolutely horrid right now, and any assertions otherwise really set off my BS detector.

blarth,

Mortgage rates and inflation were at lower points, but most likely due to historic job losses and lack of consumer confidence. In January 2021, when, per Trump, “everything was so good,” unemployment was double its current figure and 95,000 Americans lost their lives to COVID-19.

blarth,

I absolutely do not want to see another Trump presidency. I just don’t like being bald faced lied to about the reality of our current economy.

blarth,

Fair point, but damned if it isn’t suspicious.
