And you're missing that, if, as is typical of PE business practices, there are fewer employed but more work assigned to the remaining staff. Even if they don't take an absolute pay cut, they take a relative pay cut.
While there maybe some non exploitative PE takeovers, their percentage of acquisitions are vanishingly small.

Use other services besides Gmail & MS365
I mean, you may give up a lot, and you’ll probably still need a Gmail account for some things, but that is an effective method, and less painful by far.
Now if you want to learn how email works sure, absolutely, knowing shit is amazing. But I don’t have to build out a garage to know how my car works, I don’t need to run a lithium mine to know how batteries work.
@bynkii the receiving email part, maybe. The keeping spam from flooding you part? There’s a reason Google and Microsoft have entire teams dedicated to it.
And let’s not forget the misery of trying to send email and not get blocked by Google or Microsoft because you’re on a tainted ip, or you didn’t tweak your dns exactly right, or dkim or or or.

@unixorn yep. Like who do these “it’s easy” send email to, each other? Fuck, I had to send my graduation announcements from my Gmail account to anyone using Gmail because it decided my MS365 account was spam? Makes no sense but there you are.
Like if people want to learn about how email works, I encourage that but you don’t have to set up a fucking public email server to do that.

@majors But as someone with 30+ years in the field, there is a WORLD of difference between me running an email server and someone who read a book. There’s things they won’t know that will cause them days and weeks of problems, and potentially many other people problems.
The internet isn’t just one thing, it’s all kind of connected.
