Anniversary blog post from May 30, 2012: The Tri-State Transportation Campaign released a report on Dangerous Roads for Walking, which was a good idea in general, but I recommended measuring the danger per mile, not just on the road with that name, since the lengths varied.

A spot-check on crashmapper suggests that some roads, like the Bowery and Fourteenth Street, were a lot safer in 2011-2024, while others, like Brighton Beach Avenue and the Grand Concourse, were not.

The Voice of the Subways, Bernie Wagenblast, will be among the judges at the May 31 all-gender Miss Subways 2024 contest at Coney Island USA's Sideshows by the Seashore Theater (1208 Surf Ave)!

"Contestants will represent their subway line of choice, answer subway-themed questions, and show off their talents, all for a chance to represent NYC straphangers as the next Miss Subways."

RT @jalexa1218 On Friday I went to this Mexican bar in Brooklyn. All the tables were full, so people had to stand. Before this summer they had extended their outdoor seating area to the street but now it is parking for one graffiti covered truck

I'm not on Xitter any more, but someone else (on IRC, lol) posted this.

I think the original article is from 2017.

@EverydayMoggie @Andres4NY A lot of the deaths from natural disasters are car-related:

Every truck VMT is a policy failure.

RT @usdotfhwa At 8.3 billion vehicle-miles traveled (VMT), Interstate 80 leads the nation with the most annual VMT, followed closely by I-75 at 8.1 billion and I-40 at 7.7 billion. https://fhwa.dot.gov/policyinformation/hpms.cfm

RT @aarmlovich Decommodification--ditching the price system in favor of a lottery, waitlist, or other rationing--can be done, but urban housing scarcity is a physical fact

It is possible to turn high prices into 20-year waitlists, for example, but it will not fit 100 families into 90 homes
