"Kilroy was here" was found on an ancient castle walls.
From about Napoleon's time.
Some things never change and bored soldiers with knives is one of them. Graffiti is their hobby when not fighting..

@fmhilton Nomina stultorum semper parietibus haerent. and Nomina stultorum ubique locorum scribuntur. Sometimes translated as "The names of fools are written on the walls." And I found a related English proverb "A white wall is a fool's paper." 😄

This time on One Song Diallo Riddle and LUXXURY not only tackle a song that, arguably, possesses the ultimate accolade: It is Diallo’s favorite song to sing at karaoke. “Head Over Heels” by Tears for Fears is not the British synth pop group’s biggest hit – that would be “Mad World”, “Sowing the Seeds of Love”, or “Shout” – but Diallo makes a strong case for why there’s no better song to belt out at 2am in a karaoke bar.

Read 3 as "haven't" -- it may be obvious, but maybe not.

@bwbuhse Easy for some. My tilde site at sdf.org does it for me.

My other (hobby) sites are hosted on shared servers with registration at another company. If I did registration/DNS/hosting together, they would do it for me, but because of my setup, I have to contact support to install. Let's encrypt certs only last 90 days. That becomes a project. If you self-host or otherwise run your own virtual server, things might be different.

cs,
@cs@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Also, if you don't want Let's encrypt, you can get basic SSL for as low as ~$7.00/yr

cs,
@cs@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Here's where I get into problems doing Let's Encrypt on my shared hosting...

This means I would have to use the manual option, and that would require manually updating it every 90 days or contacting support each time.

@rmbolger I've considered this, but there's a lot of moving parts, and as a hobbyist, this all comes out of my pocket. I just renewed my annual hosting in February, too. I put the call out in January asking folks if they had any recommendations, and no one did (obviously I don't have much reach as a mastodon user).

Yes, and everyone is noticing. Stories on news sites are more and more just crap. News media, don’t try this.

FWIW one of the new options on for flagging stories on their aggregator home page is to mark it as dreck.

HARRISON DUPRE: I think, in general, you should always be looking at the byline no matter what, but maybe zoom in a little. See if something feels a little uncanny about it. The text might be super repetitive, stilted and weird. You know, I've spent a lot of time, of course, in these articles. They generally feel like an alien came to Earth and had never used a vacuum, does not even understand what a vacuum is...

Okay admittedly I did smile. Some designer is probably really happy that this is being noticed. Very fun detail https://www.threads.net/@snazzyq/post/C7CpmYevMwf

@danirabbit I don't understand what I'm seeing :( Is there audio or something explaining what is going on? Is this something only tablet/touchscreen/stylus users would recognize?

cs,

@danirabbit Thanks. I was not hearing it because I didn't realize I was logged into a virtual machine that wasn't forwarding my audio back to the local machine. 😄 🙄

Somewhat negative review of the march afternoons’ cover of “Cruel Summer” at Louder Than War. It is difficult to say if the tongue is placed firmly in cheek.

Reports that president of #Slovakia gravely injured in apparent assassination attempt.

This sort of thing has big security implications in that it is an Eastern European NATO and EU member state, although #Fico is considered a pro-Russian populist.

So sits in with band playing "Rockin' in the Free World." Uh, yeah, that's great, but the song title belies the song's true meaning. Sort of like "Born in the USA," isn't a full-throated endorsement of American militarism.

This may not be as bad as using it in campaigns.
