Thinking about expectations after I came across some negative reviews of #StarWars The Acolyte. I like it so far … but I also loved the original trilogy.
See, when the 2nd trilogy came out, I felt it was just terrible. (That hasn't changed, everything hinges on Padme falling in love with that little kid, which holy fuck just no.)
The 3rd trilogy I did watch but I found it utterly forgettable. The Filoni shows tend to start out good but then just make everything feel small and mere fan service.
Now, for the first time in a long time, a new #StarWars show comes along that tries to do something different. No empire, no stormtroopers, no known characters, and I have no idea where the show is going. And nobody else seems to know because that time period is uncharted territory so far or something? That's pretty exciting to me!
The last time I felt this excited about a SW story was with Andor (an adult show, no fan service!) and Bioware's original KoTOR (4000 years earlier!). Everything …
Blank slate, kind of! And it showed a universe that has so much room for … well, anything! Because #StarWars shouldn’t be “Six degrees of Kevin Skywalker”, IMHO. I don't need the origin story of some rando who was in the same cantina as Han back on Tatooine, instead give me some fresh stuff.
Acolyte is enticing because I don't know where it'll end up, lore-wise. Maybe it turns out to be shit, sure, but it's not Formula Disney (yet?).
SW, man. So much potential, yet so much risk-averseness.
#Loupedeck Live S, first impressions after 2h of dicking around:
Solid build. Prefer it over my SD Mk1.
No actual keys, just a touch screen with a plastic grid on top. Works for me
The macOS software is …not great. That icon browser is kinda bad: random (!) icon order, search doesn't find all the icons even though they're there.
When you visually set up a key by choosing an icon and an overlaid text, the whole thing will be rendered. Want to change the text? Please start over, lol
The Stream Deck ecosystem is much bigger when it comes to plugins. I dearly miss that plugin that lets me select audio I/O devices and visually marks the active one. Or the one that triggers Keyboard Maestro macros. It's no big deal because I can run shell commands, but …you know.
It's so much easier to create an icon pack. It's basically just a folder full of PNGs.
There's no built-in way to trigger Shortcuts workflows, you'll have to "Run Command" with the shortcuts run ….
Speaking of “Run Command”, there's one text field to enter the command, and you need to place a “||” between the executable and its arguments to mark which is which, uhhh
“Open URL" only accepts HTTP(S) URLs, no local schemes like kmtrigger: or obsidian: or shortcuts:.
A mixed bag. Build quality and haptics, tho: top notch
3/3
In other news, in #FallGuy there was a dog which would only react to commands in French but when they spoke French he would understand everything, and the way everyone talked to him was just hilarious.
