Been using the Pixel 8a for 2 days now as my primary phone and it's fine, but i like the Pixel 5 running LineageOS so much more. Way more comfortable in the hand and LineageOS is very calm compared to the extremely needy stock Google version of Android. I have to disable so many things yet on LineageOS it hasn't got any of that crap in the first place.

Even on iOS there's a shitload of things to disable or configure to be less sharing - all the Health stuff, Screentime tracking, iCloud Photos, AirDrop, the weird "focus" modes, etc. Both Google and Apple need to relax and calm the fuck down. They're trying to do so much whereas LineageOS is like - here's a phone dallier, calculator, camera app and SMS, that's it, you gotta take care of the rest.

The candy store at Highpoint is such a rip off with most of its stock. 😂 But I wanted a Dr Pepper because I’m predictable af

@Caprica that shop was so disappointing - should really be US/UK candy, there's so many asian and european ones they're not stocking!

@Caprica yep! that one in tullamarine is way better

Okay anyone know what this is about?

My suburb, Belgave, has just sprouted a few temporary installations of traffic monitoring cameras (photo attached of the control unit).

No-one I've spoken to at the Yarra Ranges Council or VicRoads knows what they are. I've emailed VGSO (at VicRoads' suggestion) and NTSurveys, because the latter's phone just goes to voicemail.

I'm very curious to know what data are being recorded, and how the data are being handled.

@duncan_bayne crack it open and see what's inside

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@duncan_bayne @PCOWandre @ozjonty I'd simply open it because I'm curious what's inside, please take photos if you do

So the Recall feature on Windows essentially takes a screenshot every second in the background, then uses an LLM to answer stuff you ask??

@bling today is on not many PCs and easily worked around - soon it's on more PCs and turned on by default. People are fearful based on the prior history of these companies, Microsoft in particular.

i kinda like iTerm's ChatGPT integration, very useful and added in probably the least offensive way you possibly could do such a thing

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@mattdarveniza to be fair, 90% of the time something you love with AI added in is probably a warning sign

Continuing with my marketing shenanigans... These flyers turned out really well. Putting about 400 of them into goodie bags at a diabetes charity event soon.

the duct/vent in my wife's study suddenly decided to blow weak (but still hot) air out of it, but the one further down in my study is strong as it always has been - wtf

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

why is this my problem, i just spent $10,000 on this shit, why can't it just goddamn work, i have better things to do, i dont want to deal with tradespeople who think im whinging when I simply want the thing i paid them a very generous amount of money for to heat my shitbox of a house built by incompetent morons a decade ago

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@nickzoic the dampers I've got are simply on/off, not variable and other vents on the same zone, further along the ductwork blow really strong air

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@georgeharito I have had the tape come off a few ducts too, just no adhesive left!

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

hvac people came, fiddled with the ducts and it works the way it should again - unknown if I'll be billed (hopefully not), but it seems the duct was sagging so not enough air was coming through

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@gurgle just tied some straps to the frame to lift the duct up some more - my main issue is that im not mobile enough to get up in the roof :(

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@georgeharito pretty close!
