Christ on a crutch Microsoft you bloody did not just add random ass widgets to the login screen did you? You did? WTF for? Who asked for this?

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@dawnstar every few weeks microsoft does something random like this and it is so tiring - wish they'd just leave us the fuck alone and make an operating system that gets out of the damn way

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@dawnstar i'd love to meet the people at microsoft responsible for this and ask them why they are the way they are

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@nonspecialist @dawnstar I use Mac and Linux as well as Windows! It’s pretty hard to avoid

submitted my lineageOS article to hacker news earlier in the week and it got some traction, mostly people not reading the article (they think I'm suggesting non-tech savvy people install LineageOS themselves, lol) and talking shit, but a few nice ones too

Listened to a heap of Steve Albini produced albums lately, he attracted some awesome bands in the last decade or so that were influenced by his work in the 80s/90s.

Made a playlist of 10 of my favourites recorded and mixed by the legend.

@otte_homan i don't think anyone's ignored his work (many of the bands he's worked with are on regular rotation for me!) - just that his passing reminded us what we've lost. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@Jross yeah! there's so many bangers in his discography https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Albini_discography

Issue 2090 of The Sizzle just left my mail server!

Today's headlines:

  • NBN floats the idea of 2gbit FTTP/HFC services to ISPs, along with new NTDs

  • Another day, another "commercial health information organisation" hacked and our private medical info leaked

  • Reddit sells our data to OpenAI, Google gives Gemini to schoolkids, Slack to train its AI on customer data

  • Winamp to release source code

And the following stuff is on sale thanks to OzBargain:

  • Cheap 34" Alienware OLED monitor, Optus pre-paid SIM, AirPods Max, Intel Optane, Diablo 4, Dell SFF PC, Plex Pass

anyone making this argument is 100% missing the point of why apple's ad sucked - it wasn't about the physical items getting destroyed, it was the metaphor of the world's biggest company compressing all the creative, human, cherished things into a boring, soulless computer that it controls and owns and makes all the money on

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@evanspw yeah everyone wants that shit crushed, encouraged even
