UX peeve. Lamps that you have to tap repeatedly to adjust brightness so that if you want it to get less bright you have to cycle through more bright first. Bring back clunky analogue switches. Touch interface is bad for everything except a phone.

still asking $60 for 1 year of 6Gb… 😭 @zotero I love you all but it’s 2024 now, maybe you could either reduce the price or increase what we get for it?

@MolemanPeter what do you mean? Is there a reference manager that is officially called “Reference Manager”?
Yeah I could not pay and use other ways to store the pdfs like dropbox but I am happy to support Zotero. I just wish it was a more reasonable price - this is not one time but every year!

Yeah having 60Gb of pdfs would be a lot, although very possible to reach eventually!

Didn’t know that about their dev doc.. I hope they fix it eventually! It’s already a pretty cool program but I imagine it could be a lot better!

I know it should be possible to travel from some place in Italy (Bologna, Pisa, doesn't matter) to the Netherlands, why is there no one place where I can just book the best trip... it's honestly the most exhausting aspect of train travel that you have to stitch these trips together from transport companies that don't work well together and then pray to the gods of transport that something random doesn't happen. Carbon emissions from flying around 100kg one way, train around 2 kg one way... 😔

So the staff at is apparently not allowed to tell individual students that they support the strike 🤔

Also, just in passing - I support the strike and all its demands, actually I think the demands are really not going far enough, did you known the PhD students are not even paid for the teaching they do??

Postdocs should really strike together with the students. Did you know that postdocs at only have 14 days of holidays per year??

It’s interesting that the argument for not treating any of us properly is that “we are trainees”. As we all know, trainees are here to learn and are not really useful until they’re not trainees because they need constant supervision. Maybe we should see how academic research progresses if all “trainees” stopped “being trained” for some time… 🤔

I realize yelling at a traffic engineer is pointless (and I kept my voice even and calm!), but damn was that a frustrating phone call. I had to explicitly state that "I care more about a pedestrian or cyclist getting hit than someone in a car having to wait at the light a little longer" when he was like "we try to keep cars moving on University". Apparently there are two protected lefts in that cycle currently and only one also gets a pedestrian signal during school hours maybe?

@SRLevine me or my colleagues keep having near-misses with cars at a crossroad next to our uni because there’s one of these stupid “cars don’t have to wait for green light to turn right” rule. The cars pay attention to other cars but absolutely don’t care about pedestrians. It’s really annoying, stressful and dangerous.
In France at least red means red and everything is clear!
