I hear the neighbor children sobbing and screaming “Dad stop” and he’s endlessly shouting, and I hear furniture and things being thrown… it’s been going on for an hour now. I can’t really hear what he’s saying but it sounds awful. I’m starting to wonder if I should be calling the police. I can’t hear his wife at all but I hear the children terrorized and I’m scared for them.

They have loud fights often but this one has lasted for quite a while now, and the kids are obviously terrified.

@SuitedUpDev Pets being scared is worse 😭 I always feel so bad for animals, because they can’t understand why this happens and they must feel exhausted from anxiety by the time this all ends.

One of my dogs is already hiding under the table. The other is whining. Enforce the ban already, no one NEEDS personal fireworks.

@SuitedUpDev IMO it should be in designated areas in certain hours, not your backyard at any time. Let the municipality allocate land outside of populated areas and you can go there and blast off all the fireworks you want. Easy cleanup, no scared animals.

@elisse I got my polygel kit and did my first set today. Opted to use the dual forms to extend the nails.

Overall, happy with the initial results, not sure how they'll hold up but we'll see!

Couple things I noted:

  • it's hard to see if the gel has pushed out when you're using gel similar color to your nails
  • getting the right amount is tough but got the hang of it (also you can layer it if needed)
  • the c-curve on the forms is a lot rounder than my nails (this is something I notice a lot)

Has anyone been having issues with notification badges not appearing on @ivory recently? All my settings are set to show them and yet they’ve just disappeared.

@ivory I am receiving notifications from Ivory, they just don't show on the app icon as a badge sporadically. A reinstall seemed to have fixed it temporarily, but it's started again. iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17.2, seems to have started with 17.2.

Don't have the same problem on my iPad Mini 6th gen iPadOS 17.2, if that helps.

I've been experimenting with dip nails for two months now, and religiously putting on nail oil. As a result, my nails have never been healthier. No breaks, no peeling off, no chips, and for once in my life my natural nails are growing.

Turns out "I don't believe in nail oil" was not the stance to take all these years.

I still don't want to risk going without dip powder since that gives a ton of support to nails that might otherwise break off, but every time I soak the dip off I see super healthy nails underneath -- no yellowing, no peeling bits, no sussy looking ends about to chip. Don't be like me and reject nail science, just use the dang nail oil.

I want to try gel at one point but I don't think gel gives support the same way as dip, and I'm definitely not getting involved in polygel or BIAB stuff. If I'm going to spend that much time I'd rather do tips or press-ons.

@MsHearthWitch I would definitely love to hear your feedback! What brands do you prefer? How long do they go before they chip? Do your nails feel "supported" more than regular polish?

Dip is like a layer of resin, so even when I slammed a drawer on my finger the dip cracked and broke off but my nail stayed intact. It has a learning curve for sure, but it doesn't chip at all even if you're rough, and you can paint regular polish or gel on top of clear dip to get the same lasting power.

@MsHearthWitch Oooooh Gelish is a name I've heard a bunch of times, and hearing that they have your endorsement just clinches it for me. I will start with them! I'm interested in their polygel too, especially since I heard that you can use duo forms and not the fiddly paper forms...

@MsHearthWitch Dip is silly sturdy, but much thinner than acrylic. My very weak nails are the longest they've ever been right now.

You will still see a bit of thickness, and until you are used to liquid control you might get some lumpiness. The lumpiness can be filed away with a buffer or a hand file without affecting the color. Dip hardens fully 2-3 minutes after you put on the activator coat, so filing anything down at that point is no problem. Then you can put on any polish and any topcoat!

@MsHearthWitch Polygel is I think like acrylic powder, but... gel instead? With a duo form you put the gel inside the form, then put it on your nail and cure it. Once the polygel is cured, the form pops right off, then you file and shape as desired.

I especially love how it makes a French manicure and nail art looks so easy, since you can do it all in advance with your dominant hand.

@MsHearthWitch I really want to try it since a perfect French manicure is so tough to do by yourself. The only downside seems to be that polygel can't be soaked off and has to be filed off with an e-file.

@MsHearthWitch Yeah, it's also gotten harder for me to justify the time and money investment for the salon. No one there masks either, except for the techs themselves. ;_; It's so much more convenient and safer to be able to try your own things and make your own adjustments.

@MsHearthWitch Ooooh please do share your thoughts! I’d love to hear from someone who is not a professional nail technician before I pull the trigger. Nail tech videos are fun to watch, but since they’re so experienced, it can be hard to get a real opinion on whether they are easy to use.

I indeed would like to be able to interact with friends on Threads without having an account so… I’m optimistic about it. Interoperability with other protocols and having the choice about where to go and still keep your friends was always the goal, wasn’t it?
