i've got a usb keyboard with a fixed cable that has a great big ferrite on the end of it.

i have to wonder how badly you can fuck up conducted emissions on a keyboard that you would need such a ferrite? or could it just have been added speculatively?

epilys,
@epilys@chaos.social avatar

@jacqueline This keyboard production batch can have a little ferrite, as a treat.

I know says "no" to theming but... is there a way to get rid of Adwaita's window decorations? I want to use my own buttons, and remove the roundness.

@doctormo @pethil Too much effort just for using Gnome apps on your desktop :(

@doctormo @pethil Heh.

In my naivete I expected that the "do not theme our apps!" developer crowd would respect the "do not theme my window manager!" user crowd.

2024 Edition Update, https://blog.rust-lang.org/inside-rust/2024/03/22/2024-edition-update.html.

> This is a reminder to the teams working on the 2024 Edition that implementation work should be finished by the end of May

The article lists changes of the 2024 edition, like Future and IntoFuture will be part of the prelude, RPIT lifetime capture, the gen new keyword etc. Interesting.

@laund @hywan Also doesn't look like a lot of changes 🤔

played a bit with fontforge to see how feasible it is to make a custom icon font incl. the MNT logo and other symbols (cool for waybar, see top left of screenshot, and in docs, for example).

epilys,
@epilys@chaos.social avatar

@mntmn If you already know Inkscape, I recommend doing the glyphs there and importing the SVGs individually. FontForge curve controls are not as good as Inkscapes.

@gvwilson IIRC in-memory databases have no journal, therefore no rollback capabilities

https://sqlite.org/pragma.html#pragma_journal_mode

epilys,
@epilys@chaos.social avatar

@gvwilson

So I discovered something weird:

https://sqlite.org/syntax/column-constraint.html

According to this syntax for column constraints, CHECK(expr) doesn't accept conflict-clause. Could sqlite3 accepting the job table definition be a bug then?

epilys,
@epilys@chaos.social avatar

@gvwilson

Nope, this case is just a bug like I said.

Dug further and found this:

https://www.sqlite.org/src/info/92b6a9cd0fb027fe675b3913aa07c75445bba0cfac9530d08d7e48f7869c04cc

2023-01-16 https://sqlite.org/forum/forumpost/aa580a5af38a58e3

The parser accepts an ON CONFLICT clause on table CHECK constraints

but not on column CHECK constraints. But the CHECK constraint is

ignored. It has been like this since version 3.0.0.

Replacing a film camera light seal is nothing more than reapplying a fancy sticker, but it is somehow a fun exercise that gives me a profound sense of satisfaction. I think it's hitting the same part of my brain that activates when I solder something.

epilys,
@epilys@chaos.social avatar

@ekuber ... and the only way to test it is to sacrifice an entire roll. I wish there was a better way. more than half a century later we still use the same technique? :/
