a problem with self-driving cars is the industry is trying to solve problems that trains solved like a century and a half ago. it’s asking the wrong question. instead of “how do i simulate a human driver?” it should be asking “how do i make it physically impossible for this car to leave its path?” it’s much easier to program a computer that can only go forwards and backwards, where the steering is a physical inevitability, and route switching happens in concert with a different computer
