Everyone running around excited a non-human primate "used medicine to treat wounds"

I'm just over here looking at ants who have been doing this since before you were an inkling on the evolutionary tree and wondering what the big deal is.

Whatever it is ants did it first.

My fellow hoa member is screaming about me throwing the board under the bus because I'm trying to get together a community meeting for residents who are interested in being on the board and I didn't run the idea across to her first lol. SEETH!

The board of our coop is kind of crazy too... something about THE POWER just is no good for people.

I have a theory that the best people for those jobs are responsible people who find them a big drag so I'm always drafting new people the drama crowds hates.

Why do salads now only come in head-sized bowls? what is wrong with a salad of a normal size? I can never eat it all.

I saw these cool golden mirror hexagon stickers and got all excited about making a model of the Webb telescope without thinking about WHY I’d do that so they have been on my desk for a month giving me a mix of vague excitement and slow burn anxiety— I think I will give them to one of the science teachers so I can stop worrying. I already gave them a gyroscope (which they loved)

Alternately I could make a model telescope and hang in the math office and refuse to explain why.

6:30am Riker's Island

Who will be the sad little person hauling the make-up kit, the McDonald's meal, six packs of wet wipes (not going to use those showers) a suit in the dry cleaning bag and the suitcase of assorted toiletries to meet him to help him get dressed before court?

Will he need to make his lawyers do it? Is there a call out for a hair and makeup personal assistant (DISCRETE) who is willing to go to jails?

(Don't tell me it won't happen let me be happy OK?)

I've never been curious about the sex lives of famous people... or well anyone really who isn't... me. UH but if I were curious the people we seem to get to find out about ARE NOT the ones I'd pick. I'm just sayin.

For the record the are:

White spot: Dottie (Deceased)
Yellow spot: Daffodil (Deceased)
Pink Spot: Tulip (Driving me nuts)
Green Spot: Pepper (Just saw her today)

@Alon

I can only identify the queen and any ants that I might mark. There are over 700 of them and four caused all the big problems... which is why I marked them.

Daffodil passed away and we had a funeral.

futurebird,

@thepoliticalcat Workers like these live about 18 months, both Dottie and Daffodil were over two years old at least.

futurebird,
@futurebird@sauropods.win avatar

@thepoliticalcat I'd hope so. They also have extra stress due to lights and strange things happening. But, I think most ants find their lives very strange no matter what.

@thepoliticalcat

They like to sleep in big piles. I think they are happy when they do that.

Tulip escaped again! She’s too smart! I caught her but she almost got taken by the house spider. She is home safe. I’m so glad she’s ok. This ant will be the death of me. Why do I have such bad sneaky little ants??

futurebird,
@futurebird@sauropods.win avatar

@masukomi

It's a paint that beekeepers use to mark queen bees. I thought it would be fun to mark some of the ants to get to know them better. I singled out ants that I caught escaping, and I've discovered that the same ants like to try to escape... while most of them are scared to go near the lid at all when I'm feeding them and cleaning their outworld.

@depereo

It's all a little silly, but they really do have individual tiny little ant lives and ant reasons for doing ant things.

“Fluent Python” is an excellent example of a “good programming language book” — it’s not cluttered with “enterprise examples” it’s focused on how python works and goes into detail on edge cases. This lets one write code with real confidence that you know everything it’s doing. It is also written with the aim to justify why python is the way that it is. Which I need or I get irritated.

If you like python you should probably have a pdf or buy a copy.

Now which book on Java is analogous?

futurebird,
@futurebird@sauropods.win avatar

@ramgarlic You never know who you will run into in the fediverse! 😲

futurebird,
@futurebird@sauropods.win avatar

@grrrr_shark I hate having things in my code and not really knowing what they are— that was what made Java a drag for a long time before I learned what “public static void” meant and what “args” are— so many intro to java texts are like “don’t worry about those” then spend so much time explaining boolean logic the one thing that’s always easy about any new language.

futurebird,
@futurebird@sauropods.win avatar

@grrrr_shark

I think a lot of texts try to help people to get things done— which is fine and important: but this means they are shy and spare about talking about the abstract structure of the language to beginners. And many texts are written for people who are both new to a particular language AND new to programming in general. Also fine but not helpful for me.

futurebird,
@futurebird@sauropods.win avatar

@RogerBW @grrrr_shark It’s critical that the person writing the programming language book be a bit of a cheerleader for the language. Because you are asking me do something I already know how to do differently. WHY. Why would I want to go through all that? What’s the pay off?
