welp my mom has covid. i mean, we'll never know cause her and her boyfriend took 1 at home test and declared it not covid cause it's negative, which is 100% not how that works now. but they have a bad cold/flu and they just got back from a vacation in bali

Gonna try our ice cream maker to make coffee ice cream so I made a latte with extra sugar and caramel syrup and am now freezing it so I can try it tomorrow. This should be exciting!

@eniko You can probably double down on this by shifting to cold brew made Properly, with Milk, to serve as the milk component to both your ice cream and your shake enabler alongside whipped and heavy cream..

@juliancday They certainly can be bad, and I've never had the Japanese variant, but this one was a move from tall slices to stout rounds with a more concentrated, steeped "cake" part(Cookies 'n Cream in this case)---but an unfortunate diminishing of a recently bolstered thick base for textural/flavour contrast and a massive cull of whipped cream. While I know not the fate of the base after my appeals, it did amuse me when told after giving feedback that I can just ask and they'll take most anything to the back and add more of their particularly good whipped cream.

@juliancday Generally, I hate all cream cheese that hasn't undergone some form of profound transformation---like how you can use it to make a pound cake to universally good ends. As such, plain cheesecake tends to be an impossibly flawed vessel unless there's some non-standard doings afoot in the rest of the ingredients and/or methods. This new gen both infuses it thoroughly and has a respectable top layer to really help things on along.

Imagine if schools were fitted with proper ventilation and filtration which, by itself, can reduce infection by 85%. Since covid and other airborne diseases primarily spread from schools (and care settings, but not masking there is just clear insanity) we might even consistently get the R value under 1

It's such low hanging fruit. It's not even that expensive and governments already have the kind of control over schools to do this. Instead we're just doing nothing, for reasons

Hell it's so easy to sell too. Don't wanna remind people about covid? Don't mention it! Just say that CO2 buildup makes it harder for people to think analytically and process information, and that if students have better air and get things like colds and flu less often their academic performance will be better!

But no, better to just do nothing when there's low hanging fruit right fucking there

Sat outside (warm air and cool breeze), had some cake, watched Book Smart (cute queer Ferris Bueller meets Gilmore Girls movie, recommend), had bday dinner (fries and frikandel) and now I'm settling in to watch a short Noah Gervais video (it's only a bit over 3 hours long)

i saw a "positive news" segment about how the percentage of adults that smoke is down to 11% from 12.5% in the US and like, that's great, except the problem is that doing nothing about covid has probably already wiped out any public health gains made over the past 80 years getting the percentage of smokers down from 40% to 11%. it's like living in upside down world i swear to god

like, it is safer, by orders of magnitude, to smoke than it is to catch covid even a single time
