I currently own two canon cameras, an EOS M10 i bought around 2017/2018 new for around £150 and a secondhand EOS 1300d i bought last week from a second hand electronics shop for £110 (body only, i already had lenses from an old EOS 200d)...
My wife is getting a new job, and a company car is part of the package. The main issue is that the car must be either BEV or PHEV. She will have access to a range of options via their fleet rental system, but details are still TBC, but at an estimate, it’ll be somewhere around £40,000 final price. There’s a number of...
Is this your only car? (Sorry if I missed it in your post.)
If you’re concerned about range and charging, it’s worth remembering a PHEV doesn’t actually need any charge to run. Some drive less sprightly and others are not too affected.
If you can plan and integrate charging into the longer runs to work without stress, then a BEV is much better, especially when you consider that so much of our driving is short journeys. Longer personal journeys aren’t difficult to plan, there’s Zapmap and Google maps etc.
If you can change to Octopus they will sort everything for the cost of the charger plus install. Myenergy Zappi is about the best for only a little more than the cheaper Ohm crap.
The Octopus EV tariff is very cheap between 11.30pm and 5.30am, and covers the whole house. When you plug in the car, it makes a plan which can extend beyond those times if there’s excess renewables in the grid. When that happens the whole house benefits during those times.
If you need an underground channel dug for the cable, you’ll have to get that done yourself before they install.
Otherwise, I’m very happy with mine. I hope this is relevant and useful for you.
Hydrogen is made using fossil fuel energy. Compressing it to liquid is, I believe, an expensive and inefficient process. There’s no magic solution unfortunately.
Thanks for the informative comment, much appreciated.
I’ve also heard talk of hydrogen cargo ships but I don’t know if that’s realistic.
There’s also a container technology that’s been developed at Sheffield University, I believe. Each hydrogen molecule is held within its own container and it effectively becomes a liquid. Great for storage and transfer.

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...
I don’t know, I’ve used Gboard for so long I don’t notice if it’s good or bad. I swipe and it almost always works first time, if not it’s got the word suggested.
If it gets stuck, I start typing the keys and it usually suggests what I want. Same if I get stuck.
Sometimes I use speech to text, which works about the same and often better. If I could master punctuation with it, I would use it all the time.
When I type on a full size keyboard, it’s shit and takes forever. The speed on mobile is one of the main reasons I try not to use anything else. I can type at about the same rate as I can think of what I want to say. Tapping my fingers, I would have forgotten what I wanted to say before I could finish typing it.
I’m really just typing now for fun and to see how many words I can get into a comment before it becomes dull.
But then again, I never was very good at typing. Maybe that’s why it’s so much faster for me with a virtual keyboard.
Retrain your fingers! Seriously though, muscle memory is a big factor. Get out the habit of typing the next letter, if the word is there just use it. Iirc, this is how they beat speed typing records.
At the time when I was using computers and keyboards at work, and even played Typing of the Dead occasionally, I would probably have struggled to get anywhere near 40wpm.
So not fast at all, but also not slow on mobile. I wonder if there’s a test?
Ah, now this is interesting. Particularly the blue of the sky. My lab would usually give me an almost turquoise hue, which I didn’t get around to addressing before I stopped shooting film.
I would normally over expose by 2/3rds as the lab guy liked it that way.
Could you give us any info on your settings, development and scanning please?
That’s amazing, I love that you develop at home. I wanted to do that myself at one point but it was not to be.
Thanks for sharing, your images are intriguing in content and the methods and tools are interesting as well. I like the look you get a lot, the reds are so deep but without being too much overall. Very l pleasing tones throughout, the way you balance the palette is most enjoyable.
I notice you have a Rolie 35, do you have any other interesting cameras?
Ha yes me too! I love old cameras and enjoyed shooting film for a few years when I got back into photography.
I have a Nikon F75 and a tiny Yashica. I always wanted a rangefinder but Contax are not in my price range!
A great thing I discovered is that using black and white film really improves your composition. It forces you to see much more in the abstract, which makes for much better images.
I hope you keep posting, there’s something special about film and it’s even better knowing you develop your own.
