Western States training camp day 2 was an adventure. Weather called for 20% chance of rain, it rained on me for 6 hours. The GPX course that I built was off and I had to bail a little earlier than planned. But I felt great and am finally feeling fit.
That session was spicy! 3 x 10 min tempo pace while the snow came down and the black metal was on point. 6:10-6:12 for each interval and not wearing super shoes. Proud of that one.
Bragged about how little we’d see people through the holidays and that we’d avoid the sickness train. Wife tested positive for COVID last Saturday and is recovering well. I tested positive this morning. 🤦🏻♂️
Last night did not go the way I’d hoped. My second DNF. Been managing a neuroma for the last 7 years or so and never had it affect my racing. Took a awkward step yesterday and tweaked it. Every step after was a 7/8 on the pain scale and I just don’t want that for 60 miles. Time to get that taken care of and take steps beyond footwear and toe spacers. And time for a mental and physical reset.
Grindstone 100 Mile bound. Race starts at 6PM and will be a wet and windy one. Looking like 35 MPH wind gusts and like an inch of rain. Sounds like a great adventure. Live tracking below.
Halfway through my run yesterday, I figured out that I had two small holes in my hydration bladder and I had lost a liter of water. It was so humid and I was so sweaty I didn't notice the liter of water that had dripped down my backside. I need off the east coast.
Saw an article pop up titled "10 Secrets of Courtney Dauwalter's Success" and I am not clicking on it because I fear it will miss what should be point #1: She is Courtney F'N Dauwalter.
@jaredbyrd Back in the dawn of time I would listen to other people tell me what the top runners were doing to be so good. I tried to emulate them and I was frustrated with the failure to become a great runner. I eventually quit listening to all the noise and focused on my body and how it reacted to my training. I improved to become a stronger runner and eventually one of the best of that era. There are few secrets other than listening to your body, being patient, and being consistent.
That was a rough 24 hours….Had hoped to hit trails today…instead I booked a ride with norovirus, at least that’s what I assume it was. 0/10 do not recommend
