I'm kind of disappointed that the NCAA back pay settlement for D1 athletes only goes back to 2016 -- was my back of the pack performance in D1 track and cc in 2003 worth NOTHING??
@jbigham where’s my money for being the ENTITE men’s diving team at a Division III school? Gonna license my NIL in case those AI thing doesn’t work out
i talked to a friend who was like, "i have a chip startup", and since it's pittsburgh i had to confirm whether silicon or potato. but, it was silicon. and, i was like, you can just like do that? i'm very software silo'd.
@wollman@marcua that sounds like a great opportunity! people will endlessly compete and eventually tire on GPUs, but people are gonna need potato chips forever!
imma read so fast and so much that the digital library thinks i'm a bot! (which really isn't that much, it's detection for this has really low precision)
the nice thing about ML alignment is once you know your problem, who your thing is for, what context it'll be used in… ML alignment can a/b test the shit out of optimizing your thing for those things
apparently some people in my hometown on facebook are mad about the school having received two electric school buses for free. this is why i'm not on facebook anymore.
I’m thinking of putting out a yearly report on my toddler, modeled after these LLM expert papers — like there will be a chart on the delta of her math performance from year 3 to year 4, some dubious comparison to gpt4, etc… this is a good idea right?
next Thursday at 3:30pm PT, I'll be watching @reladner talk about 20 years of @AccessCompUW, and their work to increase the participation and success of people with disabilities in computing fields -- lots still to do, but remarkably successful :: https://www.cs.washington.edu/events/colloquia/details?id=3343
interesting human problem in the San Francisco $1.7million toilet -- crushed by a thousand policies, each individually may even be (or at least sound) reasonable, but collectively result in huge expense and delays -- and no constituency wants to give up their piece of the convoluted pie
@bkeegan@andresmh to be fair, all their questions are coming from their own GPTs too… i like that they can talk to each other, and i can just like sit outside and watch clouds go slowly by
