PhD student Utkarsh Dwivedi's research is a win-win: he and collaborators seek to advance children's AI literacies and align AI with children's values. #hcil2024
This paper was recently awarded an honorable mention at #chi2024: https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3613904.3642692
Leijie Wang giving a great talk (with a live demo!) of his no-code authoring system Pika, including grammar, compiler, component library, and form-based UI, for communities to create and carry out a wide range of governance online! #chi2024https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3613904.3642012
Congrats to Nouran Soliman on a fantastic talk on her best paper awarded work on meronimity (mitigating barriers to engaging in public conversations with partial, self-selected, and verified identity signals)! 👏👏 We also deployed a system for it right here in Mastodon at @LiTweeture a while back 😌 Read the paper here: https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3613904.3642241#chi2024
And Emelia Hughes giving her awesome talk! Good questions about novelty effects and possibility of reduced impact of citations or correction interventions over time in relation to systems like Community Notes #chi2024https://arxiv.org/abs/2402.17218
In a world with many “smart” devices, we need better tools to let us be in control of them.
@raynez and team built one such tool that enables, say, parents, to create ✨immersive stories ✨ that leverage smart speakers, lights, thermostats, fans, and other digitally connected devices, in addition to traditional pixels on a screen.
Check out Lei's presentation on the future of storytelling and #augmentedreality at #chi2024 today at 2pm in room 306 (in 30 min!)
@raynez worked on this project with undergrad intern @daekun and our team at Snap. They both will join @hci in the Fall, one as postdoc and the other as PhD student!
@kjfeng and Lawrence gave a great talk at #chi2024! Also some really interesting questions from the audience the work brought up - questions of ease and simplicity vs agency tradeoffs, dealing with as-of-yet unknown or revealed preferences, implications for content moderation. https://arxiv.org/abs/2401.14000
Lane Lawley just did an awesome job presenting our new interactive task learning system called VAL at #chi2024. Our system can learn new tasks on the fly from interactive language instructions and can then execute these tasks at the user’s command. Although we use an LLM to support natural language interaction, VAL’s real power comes from its hierarchical task network representation/planner, which lets it generalize and reason. You can learn more about our system here: https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3613904.3641915
We have an exciting main event at #HCXAI at #chi2024 today!
We have @janethaven from @datasociety and
Kush Varshney from @ibmresearch for an invigorating discussion on AI governance and policymaking to take Explainable AI beyond academia.
imma read so fast and so much that the digital library thinks i'm a bot! (which really isn't that much, it's detection for this has really low precision)
I am at #CHI2024 for the Doctoral Consortium and the #HCXAI workshop. I do AI+HCI research on transparency, explainability, and trust in AI and would love to chat! I'm also graduating next spring and will be looking for jobs soon 👩🏻💻
