Things I wish I knew when I started out learning to develop film a year ago: 🧵

  1. You don’t need a darkroom. You need a changing bag, like this one: https://www.freestylephoto.com/322730-Arista-Changing-Bag-27-in.-x-30-in.

  2. You then need a tank. Get something like this: https://www.freestylephoto.com/11516-Paterson-Universal-Tank-with-Two-Reels-Super-System-4

  3. Then switch out the reels for something like this, which has a large lip and is easier to fumble for in the dark / in the changing bag: https://www.freestylephoto.com/55043-Arista-Premium-Plastic-Developing-Reel

jeffhug,

@skinnylatte The Paterson tank never leaks, excellent choice. The sleeve saved me from the need for a dark room, but you can also use a thick coat..for black and white film developing products, Rodinal is a very old formula, but a little grainy. I switched to Xtol, less toxic and thinner. For bw film, Fomapan 200, but also the 100 and 400. Don't forget the clothespins, white vinegar, dishwasher rinse aid, salad spinner, laser thermometer, kitchen timer, the hairdryer...
