Hey have you tried @osgeo discourse?

https://discourse.osgeo.org/

My hope is this gradually offers and email list alternative for community / projects / committees.

jodygarnett,
@jodygarnett@fosstodon.org avatar

@osgeo while still supporting an email workflow for those who value asynchronous communication delivered to their door.

Marketting group has made the transition here: https://discourse.osgeo.org/c/committees/marketing/46

@osgeo please test @osgeo discourse by signing in and introducing yourself!

A reminder to add a project to the @osgeo website you need to ask the incubation committee first (so we can check if the project is free/open source etc…).

How to list your project on the OSGeo website

jodygarnett,
@jodygarnett@fosstodon.org avatar

@underdarkGIS @osgeo @movingpandas Nice - this is just outreach - there is no requirement to "join" OSGeo to be listed in the directory of software.

I really like the "choose a project" to explore what is available

Good @qgis idea from @geocat team this week. Sander would love more feedback on https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/geocatbridge/ beyond ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️

Inspired by wordpress, could plugins.qgis.org provide activepub to allow sharing and caring from the fediverse :)

jodygarnett,
@jodygarnett@fosstodon.org avatar

Also is there a way to promote plugin updates so they are reviewed / published / available more promptly :)

We had a fix to publish for @wheregroup this week - thanks to zimboogisgeek at @kartozageo approving 4.4.1 :)

jodygarnett,
@jodygarnett@fosstodon.org avatar

@wheregroup @kartozageo Hey @rjhale1971 any tips or insight into approval process - you are closer to the @qgis community than me :)

@osgeo @opengeospatial @qgis funding for such things is mentioned in discussion; and there is a quick promotion of funding code sprints....

This quick response undervalues (or assumes) in-kind participation of actual developers. So yeah no ... please @opengeospatial be a good partner and promote funding @osgeo and @qgis development.

Code sprints provide a venue; getting bums in seats require greater committment.

Helpful examples of how to use Elasticsearch with record data https://docs.geonetwork-opensource.org/4.2/api/search/

Thanks to Jose from @geocat for these examples :)

(helpful for those updating scripts from GeoNetwork 3.12 which reaches end-of-life soon).

Last month I shared what @osgeo thing I was personally working on each week.

This month I am highlighting others in the ecosystem (especially work that improves communication.)

Finding Geospatial Accounts on Mastodon

Besides following hashtags, such as , , , and , curating good lists is probably the best way to stay up to date with geospatial developments. To get you started (or to potentially enrich your existing lists), I thought I'd share my and lists with you.

A GREAT GeoNetwork-open source update:

https://hub.docker.com/_/geonetwork

My co-worker Juan (from @geocat) has updated the instructions to work with GeoNetwork 4.

GeoNetwork 4 made Elasticsearch mandatory, and unless you are an experienced Docker user like Juan it can be very tricky to setup.

How to use instructions now have an easy cut-and-paste example: How to setup a network with both Elasticsearch and GeoNetwork working together.

Having a "quickstart" available is vital to making software available to GIS professionals

This aligns with @osgeo core values so well user-docs are a "check" when accepting projects into the Open Source Geospatial Foundation.

To help with "quickstart" @osgeo provides a great "OSGeo Live" VM of ready to use software: http://live.osgeo.org/en/index.html

However I am learning "quickstart" is not enough ... videos are a so useful many user tell me they will only seek out a video!

Had another, more wide-ranging, demo with Apple Vision Pro today. Ask me anything.

Me, sitting on a couch, wearing an Apple Vision Pro, making a pinch gesture with my right hand.

@gruber how true to your face were your eyes shown when the face plate did the translucent effect for outsiders?

I am curious if we are going to get a strange uncanny valley effect brought into the real world :)
