New location for on Sol 1144, RMC 52.1950.

This may be the last location visible by 's RTE camera, as the rover has now reached the theoretical limit of its field-of-view (cyan line). The has been programmed to capture one RTE image every sol for as long as it is able to wake up every sol perform its routine of gathering environmental and system data, as a stationary testbed.

New location for on Sol 1143, RMC 52.1700, presumably still within 's field-of-view. It appears there may be as many as 3 frames of the rover crossing the FOV of the color RTE camera of the , now a stationary testbed collecting images, temperature and other data on a solly basis from its final location at Vallinor Hills.

& users: Did you like the monthly plugin update blog posts?

e.g. https://blog.qgis.org/2023/09/03/plugin-update-august-2023/

I used to compile them regularly for a year but stopped at the end of last year.

Is it worth restarting?

Reports from the winning grant proposals 2023

With the Grant Programme 2023, we were able to support four proposals in the first round and an additional two proposals through the second round that are aimed to improve the QGIS project, including software, infrastructure, and documentation. The following reports summarize the work performed in the proposals.

Almost there. RMC 52.0870.

seems to be determined to reach Bright Angel as soon as possible, even if it has to do it in short drives every sol, through rocky ground.

If the does take an RTE picture every Martian morning as stated, then it will most probably capture the rover as it descends slowly the slope of Neretva riverbank. The only question then is when we will see those images.

👀 Today, i tried something special : playing with lidar datas from IGN (Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière) 🎚️

First of all, you can see here a standard lidar file. Nice and creepy ^^ 😨

ChristopheLeBas,
@ChristopheLeBas@vis.social avatar

Then, i used to play with it ! ⏯️

QGIS calculated a Modèle numérique de surface (MNS - the second image / digital surface model), and an elevation model. 🗺️

But there a problem : we don't have (yet), RGB colors in our lidar datas ! So, we can just color form the elevation. Not create a real image of the terrain, with threes, factories... sad.

BUT !

A digital surface model made with QGIS. Low ground in blue, high in red. We can see some house and factory.

ChristopheLeBas,
@ChristopheLeBas@vis.social avatar

💡 But we have a solution. Not a good one if you want my opinion but...

We can pick an orthophoto of our terrain and use it to color all our points in the lidar file. Hard time using ... 🏜️

Here, you can see the image. I downloaded it from IGN again, extract the right size from the lidar

Here is a link to CloudCompare

But, here's the result :) And it's quite satisfying to have a result :D 🗺️

And a VIDEO ? YES

A lidar image with good rgb color from the orthophoto

ChristopheLeBas,
@ChristopheLeBas@vis.social avatar

With QGIS, we can create a 3D view, and a video. You have it here. 🎥

There's 600 images generatded by QGIS then assembled with GIMP. Quite... hardtime again.

I don't know why i have map 3d map, and a second map just in the back. If someone can help :)

New location for #Perseverance on Sol 1136, RMC 52.0606. If all goes smoothly, in two more similar drives the rover will be entering the field-of-view of #Ingenuity's RTE color camera, and Perseverance's team will have their last and only opportunity to have a picture of the rover captured from the ground of Mars, at least for the foreseeable future.

zoomed in on what appears to be the path forward on its way to Bright Angel. That area at the center where slope increases is approximately where the rover will enter the field-of-view of 's RTE camera, about 150m W from its current location.

The field-of-view of the Mastcam-Z camera when it captured the image above (green). The pale red ellipse is the approximate are where Perseverance will come into view of Ingenuity's RTE camera. The red ellipse is approx. the center of the image mentioned above. The dark area is where Ingenuity is hidden from the rover.
