Just a few more hours left to purchase a PyCon US early bird ticket. As of tomorrow, regular pricing will take effect. I've bought a ticket and tentatively booked a trip. As the largest and longest-running annual gathering for the Python community, it attracts the best and brightest. The potential learning, networking, and fun can be truly life changing.

Stumbled on a Django 4.2->5.0.1 performance regression (~40-60%). Never contributed to Django before, anyone know where should I start?

📣 We've made significant changes to the qualifications for DSF Membership: membership now recognizes a broader range of contributions (not just code and docs).

If you've contributed to the DSF's mission in a material way, you're eligible for membership. So this now includes organizing Django events, publishing content about Django, maintaining related apps, etc.

This is part of our long-term project of making the DSF more vibrant and inclusive.

@tonybaloney Will this be recorded? It's late in CST, but I'll take a look later.

Nice of someone in the neighborhood to shoot off fireworks that sounded as loud as a cannon. The dogs were barking across town. 🤣

Work in progress of "What I Am Paying Attention to in 2024"... what would you add or subtract? https://katherinemichel.github.io/portfolio/what-i-am-paying-attention-to-in-2024.html

@greg Thank you! I've had many of these bookmarked for a while. Need to focus, learn, and apply.

I posted a 2023 Recap a few days ago. Mom pointed out that it required login to view. So, I've created a new portfolio site that does not require login. I used a beautiful Python Sphinx template called Alabaster that I've wanted to use for a while. A new portfolio site is a good start to the new year. 😎 https://katherinemichel.github.io/portfolio/2023-recap.html

I wrote up a short recap to celebrate the highlights of my 2023. It was another amazing year, and I feel incredibly lucky! https://github.com/KatherineMichel/portfolio/blob/master/regular-blog-posts/2023-recap.md

@CodenameTim This version will likely be specific to JPMC tools and methods, but I'd love to get more teaching experience and exposure, so I'd consider doing something outside of JPMC.

Life isn’t always easy, but consider me blessed. Thankful to spend another Thanksgiving with mom and Uncle Edward. Miss you Aunt Judy. Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

How my Thanksgiving is going so far. When I heard someone repeatedly texting my mom, I was afraid it was extended family drama. Fortunately, it was just my brother and sister wishing her a "Happy Thanksgiving."

One of the things that I find the most maddening about the Twitter dumpster fire is the additional overhead required now to re-assemble community.

While I am on the subject, I'd like to find a way to cross-post to Twitter, Fosstodon, LinkedIn, etc. Does anyone have a good tool/method for doing this?

My GitHub news feed has been a mess for years. I am finally getting organized and pruning my follows and stars to be much more Python-y. The news feed content quality has immediately improved. Twitter used to be my "news" source. I am rebuilding my news one connection at a time.

I've wanted to go to PyTexas for ages. 2024 might be the year that I finally go. With tickets starting at $65 in person and Amtrak $14 from Dallas to Austin, I couldn't resist buying a ticket. The conference is held in downtown Austin at the beautiful public library. The talks are high quality, the tickets are reasonably priced, and there's an after party! 🐍
