Train manager just announced we're running 65 minutes late. At the current rate of increase of delays we'll be nearly 2h late when we arrive, putting our expected arrival time back from 1957 to probably 2200.

(Assuming nothing above and beyond the baseline of bad for this trip goes wrong.)

@cstross Deutsche Bahn and the then government tried to privatize DB way back in the day, when the other crown jewels (Deutsche Post, its bank, Deutsche Telekom, Lufthansa etc.) were being flogged off right and left. Possibly DB waited a bit too long. Anyway, the attempt failed spectacularly.

I don't expect we'll see DB (or anything else) privatized any time soon. Most likely nothing will change. But if anything does change, likelier in the direction of renationalizations.

@cstross @jon @yrrsinn I'm afraid that's routine. And frustrating, as when travelling on business I try whenever possible to use trains rather than planes.

The upside, I suppose, is that all those people worried that a reunited Germany would yet again become a bullying tyrant can relax -- these days, the Germans can't even make the trains run on time.
