I recently installed Linux mint ane was unpleasantly surprised that it is virtually impossible on every desktop environment, as opposed to Ubuntu on which it required very little.
I have friends who are Afghan who have had arranged marriages so this led me to be curious to ask, why does this practice still persist into the 21st century?
But then it’s still just arranged dating at best. Maybe the parents look for someone who is interested in entering a marriage in the first place, but that doesn’t make it an arranged marriage IMO.
Yes, language is subjective, cool that you seem to be learning that today. So no argument as to why it would actually be an arranged marriage, despite the described scenario not necessarily ending in a marriage?
Yes you did, and when you said that, you implied that “arranged marriage” could also mean getting help with dating. You never mentioned dating explicitly, but how else do you think your original comment should be interpreted?
You’re getting personal now, which is a telltale sign for someone who has no arguments for the point they are trying to make.
I mean I’m aware that this isn’t like western dating but it’s still not an arranged marriage. Saying that this is an arranged marriage is like having your parents pick out a hairdresser and calling it a haircut.
I bet if the kind of things happening in the US happened in China, I wouldn’t be able to stop hearing about it. I mean, people are still criticizing the Tiananmen Square massacre, and hasn’t anything happened since then? It’s like still making conspiracy theories about Kennedy’s assassination or 9/11, those are old news.
Yeah I just started using Linux half a year ago and tried a few distros and DEs, but GNOME “disks” is just the easiest way to set up auto mounting and is available on any package manager I came across so far.
It definitely helped me a lot more than I expected. I got diagnosed with depression about 2 months ago and made a point of leaving the house at least once a day, even if it’s just taking out the trash or going to get groceries. A walk around the block is even better, but I get that it’s difficult to actually do that every day. But having accomplished something, even if it’s just a tiny goal, made me feel better.

I’m pretty sure the increased crime among refugees here in germany is largely due to the laughably long wait times (months, if you’re lucky, on average 3 years) until their case gets reviewed, and them only gettting a tiny allowance (max. 182€ per month) and not being allowed to work during that time. Of course they end up committing crimes more often in such a situation, it’s not because they are bad people.
edit: hast du deinen Artikel eigentlich selbst gelesen?
I like the concept of the iOS/Android app BeReal. Your app tells you randomly during the day that you have to take a combined picture (frond and back camera). So you don’t have much time to prepare. Then this pic is uploaded and friends who follow you can see it....
Idk why the app idea seems so uninteresting to so many. I really like the concept. It encourages to share an actual slice of life instead of the most perfectly crafted peek into the most fun activity you’re doing. I enjoy using BeReal with the few friends I added on there. It’s more of an “inner circle of close friends” rather than “add any acquaintance” type of social media.

I’m sure there are some managers that would do this but in my experience that would be the exception rather than the norm. From what I’ve seen, managers tend to be bootlickers who support the status quo and believe in pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, and think handouts make people weak and dependant (newsflash: barely any human is truly self sufficient).
Workers usually don’t give a single shit, though. Unless you get super unlucky and get one of those “by the rules” type.
Using Ubuntu may give off hipster vibes to the average PC user, but within the Linux community its has the opposite effect.
hot take?...
On what distros/desktop envs is it possible to have the same taskbar on every screen?

I'm so tired of hearing about US police brutality and China being authoritarian. Why does it feel like everyone is a hypocrite here? Where are the posts about Chinese protests and police brutality?

How do people actually dumpster dive to get free food? Are there any other cheap/free ways like this to get food?
