Opened another 500 TestFlight slots for the new Reeder preview (see previous posts). There's still a lot to do but it's slowly getting to a usable state.
In case you didn’t know, I currently auto-post everything to @birchtree via RSS, but unless there’s some crazy gotcha, I fully expect to make Birchtree a native fediverse citizen once this rolls out. https://mastodon.xyz/@johnonolan/112315231711519319
I just sent out the latest issue of Cip's Clips where I recap what I've worked on for the last few weeks (and months, really), including my Galaxy S24 Ultra review, early thoughts about Apple Vision Pro, and my Wirecutter debut.
Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra is here. Literally! It's on my desk right now. I'll be testing it and reviewing it for Pocket-lint before its Jan. 31 launch. What questions do you have? I'll try to answer them in my review!
Some personal news, as they say. Starting next week I'll be the Lead Editor of the Devices Segment at Pocket-lint. I explain what that entails and more in this week's issue of Cip's Clips. https://jasoncipriani.com/i-got-a-job/
I'm still trying to find all of the accounts I followed on here before my server crashed. I think most of my followers automatically came back, which was nice.
But, if I followed you before and I don't follow you now, @ me. My timeline is lacking some activity.
Started playing #StarWars#JediSurvivor , an Electronic Arts #videogame, on the #SteamDeck last night. My son finished it months ago but as I showed him how it looked on the Deck, I mentioned that I’d been playing games from EA for around 40 years.
He didn’t believe me so we looked up a list of EA games over time. Sure enough, 40 years on the dot. Archon, M.U,L.E., Dr. J v Larry Bird…1983 was a hot year for PC games!
Sorry for the 320 x 200 image… but that’s what the native resolution was! 🤣
I owe my son an apology. I’ve fought with him and accused him of turning this stuff off for months. He’s the only one out of our three kids who has had Screen Time routinely turn off/disable itself. It didn’t make sense to me just one device would have issues.
The problem I'm having with Theeads, Bluesky and even Mastodon is there are now too many options for people. That means everyone I enjoyed following and interacting with on Twitter are now spread out across multiple services, and it's lead to me not wanting to use any of them.
I like pizza. I love making pizza. For the last few years I’ve been using an Ooni Koda 16, outside, in the heat and sometimes the cold. But with the Volt 12, I can make crispy pies inside year-round. I spent some time testing Ooni's electric pizza oven for Men's Journal. Here's the full review: https://www.mensjournal.com/gear/ooni-volt-12-pizza-oven-review
Some personal news: I’ve made the decision to leave ZDNET. It’s the first time in my 14 years of freelancing full time I’m not involved somehow with a CBSi or Red Ventures property. Certainly is bittersweet.
I have a solid roster of clients right now, but I’m open to new opportunities, even if that includes going full-time somewhere. If you know of anything, or have any leads, feel free to send me a message. This is without a doubt new territory for me.
