I got to say having put in a lot of long hours with netBSD as of late, I am really wondering how viable moving some of my servers over to *BSD is.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@ZiggyTheHamster having maintaied Ubuntu installs over a decade, I'm more of the opiion that *BSD would be less effort because I don't need to worry about the system drastically changing on me, or apt breaking.

The ham radio equipment has come out of the box.

I'm actually planning on keeping this, so I'm goig to just hook it up so I can't accidently toss a part.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@melanie I've had my license for quite awhile, but the radio doesn't get to come out often but at the moment, the desktop is unused, and it has a real sound board so I might as well do something with it

Ahhhh, so much free storage.

@karpour I had archives of archives that could be booted.

Well the good news is the backups on the NAS fail check the same way. This is probably a failed write but its concerning none the less. That said, this backup repo is going to the trash, as it was out of date any.

I also have the backups in the cloud passing check as of last reported run, but I'm doing a maual one right now

Time to make some space.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

Before I do that, I should make sure that my offload of data is actually good and not failing in weird ways ...

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

I might have corruption in my backup archives. That's alarming for multiple reasons. I need to do some checks ....

rsyncing 8 TiB just so I can delete it on the other end is a sign of the times. It's going to feel very good to reclaim that much space on the NAS though.

I'm also debating at this moment if I really want to go back to mutt email, and perhaps a tiled window manager. I really hate what modern computing has become, and I'm looking to simplify it.

Drastically.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@buzzle Never heard of Hyprland, but I have used a tilting window manager in the past: I ran XMonad on a Tobisha AC100 as a daily driver for awhile.

My daily driver at the moment is a MacBook Pro so my options are limited, but working on a console on a stream is immensely relaxing.

The Content ID test of the music library is: - We'll satisfy your attributation need for you. but thank you https://incompetech.com/ for not sucking! (this library has helped many creators get their start. The $40 USD for the whole thing as a single download is worth it)

Making the man database on a MicroVAX is taking 90% of the system CPU. At least the NetBSD creators niced it

This is a debugging vibe.

@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

Well, NetBSD-10 GENERIC doesn't boot on the MicroVAX.

NetBSD 10-INSTALL does, and will infact boot a system off the HDD if its recompiled to remove the RAMdisk.

We're going to bave to do some debugging next stream.

@linear Its the lcg0 driver is doing something bad, but I haven't got the energy to look at it properly ...

With the power of DaVinci Resolve Fusion, you too can turn a modern 2024 terminal into a crispy amber

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@sayartyler made to look like it, as its WIndows terminal but i used CRT more.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@sayartyler Oh no that was the actual keyboard. If there's an app that can do it, then I'll use that as I don't always stream with the mic on anymore

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@sayartyler what's buckle from? I don't see it in MacPorts
