This is a debugging vibe.

There's something immensely satisifying when you start reclaiming 7 TiB of bits off your NAS

You know what> I just forked up $39 USD for Incompetech/Kevin MacLeod's entire CC-Attribution music library.

I've used his music before without issue, YouTube even has it in its creator library, and that's a quick and easy download. I've earned more than $39 USD from his work alone, so I'm happy to pay this.

If this works, then I'll just keep building a usable library of CC tracks.

Ok, I've got this is a 1 day length playlist, which is fie. I'm not in love with the content, but I think I can start from here.

@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

I've now used two different content ID safe music, and I still am getting claimed. I'm like ... you know what?

Fine. I just need to accept this and hope I can convince supporters to help cover the fact that I can't seem to get a stream through content ID anymore.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@atom Well I looked at my claims from yesterday, and I found there's more info:

Like you know, if its only going to take revenue from Spanish speaking continues when I no halbo espanol, then like, OK, FINE!

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@atom Less than 2-3%. Meanwhile, the stream I did today with "YouTube Safe Music" got claimed in almost all the EU and US

Well, NetBSD-10 GENERIC doesn't boot on the MicroVAX.

NetBSD 10-INSTALL does, and will infact boot a system off the HDD if its recompiled to remove the RAMdisk.

We're going to bave to do some debugging next stream.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

Having spent 30 minutes doing something else, this could a PTY problem, as that's one of the major differences between INSTALL and GENERIC, and the behavior seems like its just bad console data (as if it was using the wrong baud speed).

At this point it's going to require finding what config options influence the behavior, and then bisecting that code to find the problem.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

So when I asked people who 'tested' NetBSD-10, they confirmed that the CD boots.

I haven't found a confirmed report of installed to HDD yet.

This is tomorrows project.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@linear Interesting. It's not like these machines are that different. Did you actually watch the serial console boot up or just wait for it to come back from a restart?

Come by and enjoying NetBSD/vax installing on realtime on a MicroVAX 25Mhz

Woke up to a parking ticket today. "obstructing a driveway", which is arguable but whatever.

Went to pay it, and discorded that the online payment system has operating hours.

I'm adlibbing a script at this point. I want to attempt doing the install to the HDD live this weeked

I'm filming some glammour shots of it booting up with better visability and shit, but mostly will be using WIndows terminal footage

With the power of DaVinci Resolve Fusion, you too can turn a modern 2024 terminal into a crispy amber

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@chkuendig I'm familiar with it, but I was stuck on RDP for Windows terminal for this, so I need to retroactively add it

Compiling aclock for VAX went about as well as could be expected.

ncommander, to random
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

I need a moving image test for the new streaming setup so I think I'm going to compile aclock on the VAX. This has GCC 7-ish I think? I just need to install the comp fileset.

Progress in two screenshots:

The first is distributed.net crunching RC5-72 on the VAX. 8,188 keys on its single 25Mhz processor.

The second is my MacBook Pro, after I patched dnetc to build on Mac OS X/aarch64. 8.9 million keys!

@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

Fun fact, did you know that clang as and gas use incompatible assembly syntaxes on an architecture that is less than two decades old?

Read my comment to find out how I dealt with this.

My AMD64 VPS on Linode with handtuned ASM gets a cool 38M keys per second

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

I actually did the math. It looks liks it checks 2^32 keys per work unit.

It would take the MicroVAX 8 days of number crunching to complete a unit.
