nekron,

@tagesschau The discussion about or shouldn't be religious and personally I find the technical aspects about the vs. quite interesting. From a users POV there at Bluesky it's much easier to build your social networks and decide yourself what kind of algorithm (feed) you want to follow. This is a big plus compared to linear timelines and setting up your network here on Mastadon. The avg. John Doe will vote for Bluesky bc it's easier in that respect.

nekron,

@mariusor @tagesschau I get your points about federation. However hosting a feed is at least kind of federated by proxying the request to your feed instance returning the filtered posts. Here you can implement your own ML / AI stuff and keep it as transparent as you like (publish your feed code to Github, describe whats going on). Of course there is no requirement to do so but in the end it's your decision which algorithm / feed you trust.

An excellent talk - with scary numbers and a bit of hope - about the problems that dependency management systems bring to the table, by Eve Martin-Jones and Josie Anugerah from the deps.dev open source security team at Google.

Thanks Rob for pointing out this video. I think Go does a great job against supply chain attacks using tamper-evident logs to countermeasure any fraudulent dependency injections. I'm often amazed how many modules in total are required to build a piece of software today and I'm wondering if this kind of clutter is always the right solution instead of smaller monolithic designs with less dependencies.

For all the people who say ”I had to select a server, it was so complicated to sign up to Mastodon. On Bluesky it was easy” - how are these two different logic-wise? I mean what the hell?

Yea.. like I can read your toots here right now in the public. And bc of that there is less difference to if you think about it, but regarding the accessing them by firehose endpoint allows much more like building your own feed (algorithm) that extracts network-wide skeets for you... combine this with AI and you can read the things you're interested in... your own personal bubble. This and the global FTS is a killer feature for me over .

nekron,
