the tendency of a segment of the Love Live fandom to become upset or angry when new characters join an established group is so weird to me

niconicorose,
@niconicorose@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 I admit I don't pay as close attention to Nijigasaki's specific fandom but I do remember some people being upset at the prospect of Liella growing. Which baffled me because I loved to see LL doing something new with the story and growing the group year-over-year. And to me, Shiki, Mei, Kinako, and Natsumi turned out great so it was all super weird in retrospect how much pushback I saw.

I see people in various places starting to be weird about the Vtuber girls adding new members now. I just don't get it. I like seeing them evolving the groups and getting the opportunities to tell new stories with the characters.

@CavoriteLizard I don't understand these fans because I think Superstar Season Two was fantastic and the best season since OG and Sunshine. shrugs This is why I mainly live in my own pocket of the fandom I guess

niconicorose,
@niconicorose@sakurajima.moe avatar

@CavoriteLizard This is why I so rarely talk about the anime with other fans because when they find out I think Superstar Season Two is one of the best they've ever done and all of the Nijigasaki anime is at the bottom of my rankings they usually get very angry with me 😅

niconicorose,
@niconicorose@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 I just don't get it because I thought they did a great job integrating the new girls in season two and it's easily one of my favorite seasons of LL anime, but apparently, the fandom at large thinks it's awful. I do not get it and I feel so wildly disconnected from the fandom these days 😅

I have ordered an Analogue Pocket, partly because I own my childhood Atari Lynx and a bunch of game carts for it and the one thing you should never do with Lynx games is suffer through playing them on a real, unmodified Lynx 😅

If Lucky Star was a current anime, I think Kagami would be a queer swag icon for this outfit alone

There's a funny thing involved re: Nico drinking Red Akumas in . She, canonically, does not like spicy stuff. Her drinking a drink made partly of whiskey and jalapeno is all about how, when we catch up to her at the start of the series, she's got this kind of vaguely "more mature" image as an idol (she has been doing it for a decade at that point). It's why she's wearing her hair down and, begrudgingly, not doing "Nico-Nico-Nii" at first.

In her brain, she latched on to this drink - whiskey, jalapeno, blood orange juice, agave - as part of being "mature." Over time, the sweet part kind of smuggled the spicy in and she actually develops a fondness for the drink in spite of the spiciness.

(Also, subconsciously, a drink with "red" in the name probably reminds her a bit of the girl that isn't in her life anymore at the start of the series...)

Literally none of this really comes up but it's a part of her characterization. I just got super hyper nerdy about it in a way that most people will never care about 😅

niconicorose,
@niconicorose@sakurajima.moe avatar

I tried to give a lot of thought to most of the drinks the girls drink in NMP. I wanted to play around with Eli's Russian side, so she drinks a Japanese spin on a martini, the umetini. We mainly see Nozomi drinking Peach Fizzes because she's sweet. Hanayo drinks extremely high-end sake, because of her rice love. Rin goes for Pina Coladas because she gets to make a cat pun (Pinyaa). Maki chooses a lemon chu-hi because she doesn't like oranges but goes for something with a citrus bent just as Nico is, and because she's smart and paces herself (chu-his in bars and such aren't always as high-alcohol as pre-packaged ones).

Kotori is a beer drinker because her seiyuu is famously a beer aficionado. Admittedly, Honoka and Umi drink the same beer as her because I was getting burned out on making drink choices 😅

I'm a little bit tempted to bring her back. I think I'm definitely not a streamer, but it might be fun to use her for pre-recorded, edited Let's Plays and stuff

I finished Yohane the Parhelion: Numazu in the Mirage yesterday! I quite enjoyed it* both in terms of gameplay and story (which was sweet and appropriately emotional at the end). Despite not being a regular player of deckbuilding roguelites, I had a good time!

*other that not needing to ever hear Evil Ruby talk about Dia's toes ever again

This and the Yohane Metroidvania do make me long for a world where Love Live does more games on consoles & PC instead of the mobile world. These two are full-on console games with solid design and no scummy gacha microtransactions. Imagine if we got a story-centric Love Live non-AU game like that? (Like that idol RPG I daydreamed about on Tumblr once...)

(This is to say nothing about the Playstation port of the arcade rhythm game which, while definitely being old and only having µ's and Aqours and having its own monetization issues, is a ton of fun to play - I'd argue much more than SIF or SIFAS - and is still truckin' at least for now. Hopefully Squeenix would allow it to exist offline when they inevitably stop supporting it.)

I hope for a day when we'll have more games about the gals that let you play them on consoles and PC and not have to tap away at glass and put up with all the free-to-play mechanics to try to enjoy them.

First thing about Unit Koushien: it’s my first real major exposure to the music of the vtuber girls, and they’re great! The Cerise Bouquet, Dollchestra, and Mira-cra Park sets were so good! And they’re super good on stage. I’m impressed by how solid they already are live.

The more I see posts about the Cohost situation the more I realize that my Bad Vibes that I always got from something about that site seem to be accurate

niconicorose,
@niconicorose@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 I'm not even sure at this point. Fedi has Too Many Numbers for the Chost superfans. It is important for social media to have no numbers and zero discoverability features, apparently.

I haven't baked this as An Thought seriously but I think what all social media is finally proving is that communities can't be a profit center. None of these things make money. The Fediverse only works because it's most like old forums, i.e. somebody with nerd love and some amount of money pays to keep the lights on because they want to

it is genuinely darkly amusing to me that Tumblr is probably going to outlast Cohost given the latest Cohost financial update, i.e., the "our one investor won't pick up the phone and we will run out of money in three weeks" one
