Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.

My father-in-law had a heart attack on Tuesday morning, and he passed away about an hour after I made my previous post.

I'm still processing this, and am both saddened and shocked. This was very unexpected.

Planning to do the G3 Accelerator and RAM upgrade tomorrow or Sunday on the Power Macintosh 8100. Need to get a bottle of adhesive to repair any “Spindler Plastic" from a hobby store tomorrow

I have ordered a bunch of old Macintosh games in Japanese, including some anime games, which surprisingly had a Windows and a Mac version back then. Yes, there are lots, those that aren't even archived on the Macintosh Garden or Repository. Yes, there were the Pippin games (Apple's and Bandai's failed video game console), most that can run on a Power Macintosh, but a lot of anime related stuff, but only in Japanese only.

I do plan to have these uploaded eventually for preservation, meaning you can run them with Infinite Mac or your own vintage Mac, eventually.

Does anyone here like yuri manga?

My favorite finished yuri is Lonely Monster and Blind Girl aka Beauty And The Beast Girl.

My favorite ongoing manga is The Fed Up Office Lady Wants to Serve the Villainess. It's my first villainess story, I really like it. It's an isekai, too, but it's really good. For a long time I thought all isekai was bad but now I see this isn't the case. I hope it gets an anime adaptation.

@Linux Also, that role also grant a doubled drive space (4 GB) on Misskey, as we are required to set a limit. For regular users, it’s 2GB).

There is something I didn’t realize, the Seiyuu for Yumiko and Chika (or Yasumi and Yuhi), Ito Miku and Toyota Moe are actually part of a Japanese idol unit, Pyxis.

So, they are real life idol seiyuus then. :bunhdthink:

@yon Seiyuu units are a thing, and they can all have main roles in an anime.

TrySail is one of those Seiyuu units that has all three members voicing characters in the anime such as Magia Record, High School Fleet to name a few.

@naan This is why arbitrary character limits are pointless. I think there shouldn’t be any limit and people should be able to post any size they want. The limit on Bluesky is too small, which is another weakness.

(Even vanilla Mastodon’s character limit of 500 is limiting too)

But it’s nice that it works.

@yon Yes given the apps are more substantial than the iPad. Funny thing, I only use the iPad Pro as a light computing device, when I’m not at the desk I prefer the Pro since it has a better screen and more features.

Apparently, the Seritek SATA card firmware is flashable on mostly any SATA cards that use the SIL 3112 chip, including that Rabbit Hole Computing SATA card can easily get flashed. While that one cost $90, it comes with a SSD.

@yon I don’t have any flashed versions, the cards I have, which is a Firmtek Serialtek 1v4.and a ACARD AEC-6290M, which both can boot into Mac OS 9, and possibly earlier versions if installed on a prre G3 Power Macintosh (but not the first gen, those only has Nubuss slots).

I still buy some physicl manga. I do perfer it, but have no room to store it and there is so much. I am mainly finishing series I started before I went to emanga. Photo of this summers physical purchases, include She is So Cheeky For a Commoner and the next volume of My Job is Yuri, as well as two volumes of Whisper me a Love Song.

@NaraMoore I have a few physical manga volumes, but I went digital a long time ago because of room. I have a lot of CDs that I ended up having to put in a box so I can make room for some figures, but I need a display case. Also found a way to rip the digital copy so I don’t have to use the reader app.

I mostly digital on music since I found a way to buy non-DRM Lossless/High Res digital tracks with a Japanese VPN, but I still buy CDs sometimes for albums maybe or tracks that don't have a lossless version.

I remember seeing my brothers' PCs just stopped getting upgraded, including their GPUs. My eldest brother's PC stopped "growing" with an ~500 (or 700) series. My second brother's PC stopped at an NVIDIA GTX 1070.

Mine was upgraded several times from a GTX 1050 Ti, to GTX 1070 Ti, to an 2070 Super, and lastly to an RTX 3080 Ti ~2 years ago using money I got from a job I did funded by the EU lol (otherwise... I would never have gotten an XX80 series honestly).

Seeing my brothers' PCs and the sad state they're in, I swore I'd not "grow old" and stop upgrading my PC hardware every couple of years. Now, I fully understand them not because of the rising commitments of them having families of their own etc. but just... this is enough lol and I suspect it will be enough for ~6-10 years at least. No offense, but my younger self would think I sound boomer as hell rn saying what I just said.

@irfan I took years to upgrade from a GTX 980Ti and a Vega 56 since GPU prices were rediculous. They are still bad now, although I upgraded to an AMD Radeon RX 5900 XTX that sit in an EGPU box, meaning it can’t reach it’s full protential, until Thunderbolt 5 comes out, the games I play doesn’t even need that level of graphics.

Even the lower end cards are not even worth it given how cut down they are compared to the cards released in 2018, which gave reasonably good performance around $200. The only option around that price point that gives a good value is the Intel Arc GPUs, but they are a hit and miss given not that mature drivers.

It's not like the translations wih AI is going to be good, as Japanese is a hard language to translate stuff accurate and machine translators are never that great with Japanese to English.

Thought the RAM will come this weekend, but not really. So I guess I’ll do the upgrades on Friday or next Sunday. Need to pick up Gorilla Glue or similar to glue them back.

There will be a part II of the post I did on my blog, and maybe a full TTS video explaining some history of the machine, and what I did to the machine. Hopefully I can play some of those Japanese anime games, as there are a good number of them on the Mac.

I still have that other G3 Accelerator upgrade, but I think I need to go to a VCF swap meet during the summer to find a PowerMac 8600/9600 tower or Mac clone to add that. I have a few parts I can put in as a Rage 128 video card and a USB
PCI adapter, but the prices of 8600/9600 are outrageous on EBay unless there there is a reasonable one that comes up, but I doubt it. It will serve as a backup to the 8100.
