I have a gaming computer that runs Windows 10. Unfortunately, there are still games I want to play that only work on Windows. I refuse to upgrade to Windows 11.

When Windows 10 support runs out, I'm not sure what I'll do, gaming wise. The AI stuff that Microsoft is coming out with makes me never want to use newer Windows versions ever again.

@sotneStatue Luck! Can you share a bit about your insights?

What do you think you get when you call "".split(",")? What about "".split()?
Answer: It depends.

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@x9c4 In which language?

slott56, to python
@slott56@fosstodon.org avatar

Hadn't thought this before. But.

>>> a = 2
>>> a′ = a + 1
 File "<stdin>", line 1
 a′ = a + 1
 ^
SyntaxError: invalid character '′' (U+2032)

The Unicode Prime (and Double Prime) should be valid parts of an identifier. Maybe a few others that are widely-used.

>>> a² = a ** 2
 File "<stdin>", line 1
 a² = a ** 2
 ^
SyntaxError: invalid character '²' (U+00B2)
numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@slott56 Don't think so. Will break ABI compatibility with C and C++ identifiers. Although ABI stability is kind of a foreign word for the Python guys.

Talking to the AI in duckduckgo

Q: Why did you remove the $ ?

A: I apologize for the oversight. In the fish shell, when using the math command for arithmetic operations, you do not need to use the $ symbol to access the value of a variable.

So, the correct command to divide the output of nproc by 2 and store it in the CORES variable in fish shell is:

fish

set CORES (math (nproc) / 2)

Thank you for pointing that out.

Why is it apologising for explaining something it did right?

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix Because it is a BS machine like every other AI out there

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix It doesn't "feel". That's just a fancy large matrix multiplication together with statistics.

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix Hopefully me. I do not want to be part of that.

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix I strongly doubt that there's any brain, which performs matrix multiplications all the time (besides of math lessons, of course).

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix That's kind of a philosphical question. I agree, if you're referring to all the "low-attendence" decisions the brain makes the whole day for you. I've a different opinion in the case, in which your brain is doing the actual "thinking work". I think, this is a condition, where you can create actual new things. But yeah, could also mean that it's just a derivation of existing things, philiophical speaking.

👀 This toot looks different on every instance. 👀

Send me a screenshot! I’d love to catch some rares (single user instances), so boost for reach too <3

@infobeautiful What did they expect that happens? The training data is deterministic, why should the output be random?

OMG. This is the real deal. Bython: Python with braces. Because Python is awesome, but whitespace is awful. Bython is a Python preprosessor which translates curly brackets into indentation. Would you use this? https://pypi.org/project/Bython/

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@nixCraft Then, why not using C++ directly?

Is anyone going to be in Budapest next Saturday? The Vasarely Museum is running an event: Math in the Streets - 3D Street Art.

"Join us on Saturday, 16 March and see how Vasarely designed images that seem to pop out and sink into the surface of the paper. Then design your own collage depicting a hole in the ground or in a wall.

The outdoor workshop for adults, teenagers and children is free.

Pop-up exhibition of student 3D Street Art from 12 pm to 1 pm in the museum."

Sounds great, if you can get to it!

Today I learnt how to write a unit test failing exactly once every 4 years: just do something like

date = date.today()
date.year -= 1

and enjoy completely unexpected test failures in all CI builds. Especially great if you ran your tests before pushing just before midnight, on Feb 28.

I hate dates and calendars.

numeredevs,
@numeredevs@fosstodon.org avatar

@VZ Especially funny, if you match an exclusion from the 4-year role. Just as funny as that Excel still thinks that 1900 is a leap year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leap_year_problem

I love it when I hear "the 1st project will require data science and the 2nd project AI and deep learning". No, all of them just require a statistician. Buy a statistician - it's a long term investment that pays you dividend.
