Celebrating two years of testosterone and taking a moment to be really fucking proud of myself for getting this far, because two years ago the idea that I'd ever be this happy felt impossible. Trans healthcare literally saves lives.

I don't deal well with heat, and on hot days like today I sometimes wonder if I'm brave enough to leave the house wearing just a skirt and a t-shirt.

I'm not sure I still agree with everything I wrote in this newsletter in 2022, but I'm not ready to be a guy who wears skirts in public yet: https://www.genderbent.co.uk/cis-men-can-wear-skirts-but-i-cant/

OK, who's playing Patreon #pornocalypse bingo? I got my first smack on the wrist.

It is for an #AudioPorn story which was posted on Patreon at the end of last year. Before their guidelines changed.

So yes, they are applying their new rules retroactively. Naughty past me! Should have been able to see the future!

And the reason they've removed it? They think it portrays 'real sex acts with real people.'

Story in next post, I'll let you lot judge.

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@girlonthenet This is so infuriating and them retroactively applying their new rules is just absurd and unfair.

"It is easy for me to say I am queer, trans, and autistic, that I am disabled and I have depression and OCD. It is not so easy to unroot the idea that in order to “make up’ for these things that are “wrong” with me, I need to be perfect in every other aspect of my life."

I wrote about realising that while I don’t think my queerness is “wrong”, I sometimes treat myself like it is. https://www.genderbent.co.uk/am-i-mentally-ill-because-im-queer/

Niche post (toot?) incoming: I know the episode where Alex Horne is in the bath is incredibly chaotic (in the best way), but the episode where both Key and Watson end up kissing the face Horne bitten into a pineapple definitely rivals in pure 'no one would believe it if you made this up' ridiculousness.

"Once you start pouring coffee into a pineapple..."

Important question for @girlonthenet – have you tried the new ORANGE Cadbury mini eggs?

@girlonthenet I was sceptical but found them delicious. (And they still smelt great!)

A few weeks ago I was moping and sad and I had talked myself out of doing anything for my 40th. Luckily my friends/family don’t just know when to support me, but also when to give me a kick up the arse, so they booted me and I organised something anyway.

It was so worth it because today I woke up in a state of extreme childlike excitement that I get to have a birthday party😍

Loads of people I love all in one place, and we’ll have drinks and cake and good tunes ❤️

CHECK IT OUT! The #AudioPorn project is featured in the Guardian today 😍 It was lovely getting to chat about independent, ethical audio smut! https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2024/feb/12/time-efficient-foreplay-inside-the-funny-filthy-world-of-erotic-podcasts MASSIVE thanks to the incredible team of guest writers and readers who share their talents on the project - you're incredible

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@girlonthenet Ooh, this is really cool!

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@girlonthenet Though I am again wondering if I was actually making audio porn as Quinn before the audio porn app Quinn was founded. (I can only find that it was founded in 2019, which is also the year I started making audio porn from my smut!)

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@girlonthenet I have a confession to make: I haven't looked at my Google Analytics for a while, because the numbers were just going down because I wasn't publishing anything new. I have just had a look, and although my audio porn page absolutely gets way more views than anything else, I can't remember how to find search terms that have led people to my blog! (I think I'm going to have to ask @Signs for some tech support to check I've set everything up correctly in GA4...)

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@girlonthenet Ooh, that's helpful, thank you! Interestingly, looking at my top fifty or so queries for the last twelve months, 'quinn audio porn' isn't anywhere in there! ('Auido porn' is though, which makes me worry I've spelled it incorrectly somewhere, and 'queers sucking cock' which I'm kind of proud of.) So sadly I don't seem to be getting any search traffic from sharing a name with them!

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@girlonthenet It really is, and I feel I'm not capitalising on that enough! (Though behind the scenes there are stirrings of me getting back into writing smut and making audio porn... maybe...)

I've gained a few new followers recently so here's a quick (re)introduction:

Hi, I'm Quinn Rhodes! I'm a freelance journalist, sex writer, and Professional Transsexual. I've been writing about sex for six years, and my work aims to change how people think and talk about intimacy.

I also write a LOT about gender as I figure out what I want my own masculinity to look like. If you're interested in nuanced writing about transness, you should check out my newsletter: https://www.genderbent.co.uk/

I put some furniture outside to be collected by a charity and someone has gone and nicked it 😶

If they needed it, fair enough, but now I have to explain to the charity why it's bloody gone and send them a donation to cover it, which has just been the cherry on top of the cake of my week.

onqueerstreet,
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@robyneatseverything I'm sorry – sending support.

I'm working on a piece about relationships for Gay Times! I'm looking for trans and non-binary people who are dating other trans folks and are up for talking about the joy of their relationships. If you're up for answering some questions for me, please reply below or drop me an email at quinn@quinnrhodes.co.uk!

(If this isn't you but you'd be up for boosting it so it can reach a wider audience, I would really appreciate that!)

Abbi and Roman (played by Anthony Lexa and Felix Mufti in Netflix's Sex Education) walk along the corridor holding hands and grinning at each other. They turn to each other joyfully and lean in for a kiss.

"I don’t think Keith is weak when he cries. Until I started writing this newsletter, I didn’t realise I think I’m weak when I cry. I know it’s ok for men to cry, I just don’t feel it’s ok for me to cry."

Last week's Genderbent was all about fragile masculinity, men crying, and The Great Pottery Throw Down's Keith Brymer Jones: https://www.genderbent.co.uk/cry-like-a-boy/

@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

If you're not already subscribed to Genderbent, each newsletter also includes a round-up of links to what I've been writing, reading, and generally getting excited about recently.

"Non-monogamy isn’t a plaster you can stick over issues in your relationship, it’s an entirely new relationship that requires work and care."

First some self-promotion! For my Gay Times debut, I wrote about how couples should approach opening up their monogamous relationships. I'm so here for the wider awareness of non-monogamous relationship styles, but it can be hard to find practical advice about navigating open relationships. https://www.gaytimes.co.uk/originals/what-is-an-open-relationship/

"I know what you really want is for me to remind you that you’re nothing but a pretty set of fuck holes who can only get off when I let zir.”

Shout out to @girlonthenet for never making me feel weird about using neo-pronouns in the smut she turned into audio porn (read here by Matt Johnson).

Although I no longer use ze/zir or ze/hir pronouns, it was so affirming for me to write erotica featuring trans characters with the pronouns I was using!

Like, sometimes being a good ally to trans people is as simple as not making a big deal out of doing something that you're unfamiliar with, and not asking them to change or explain their work for a cis audience.

onqueerstreet, to random
@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

"Faced with the years I have to wait until I can get top surgery, it’s easy to see how trans men and trans masculine folks end up buying into toxic masculinity and perpetuating misogyny in order to prove that we are men. Cis men’s tears can cost them their admission to masculinity, and trans men face far more scrutiny over our gender than they do."

My latest newsletter explores masculinity, crying, and Keith Brymer Jones from : https://www.genderbent.co.uk/cry-like-a-boy/

@onqueerstreet@mastodon.social avatar

@robyneatseverything I'm really glad it resonated with you! I love Keith too, and I'm really glad we're getting depictions of his kind of masculinity on such a brilliant and popular TV show.
