orbitz,

Okay so 4 year term then he becomes dictator for a year, you think that system will let go of that power once in place? Well maybe I’m not one to study thing things but it doesn’t seem likely.

orbitz, (edited )

According to Wikipedia the elite tried to continue the dictatorship but due to pressure things transitioned. Thank you for arguing for my point.

Edit. Okay wiki didn’t say they tried to continue the dictatorship technically but that’s the implication if they were pressured to move to a democracy. So maybe my point wasn’t argued.

Add Rubio to the list of GOP invertebrates who won’t say if they’d certify 2024 election results (www.motherjones.com)

I opened this post in News last night but had to put my phone down. Now I went to comment and it has been removed, so I’m reposting to Politics. Apologies if someone already did so. Haven’t had a chance to get on Lemmy until now.

orbitz,

Also remember they put a team on finding fraudulent votes when Trump won, he kept saying he’d have won California or the popular vote, can’t recall, from those millions of illegal votes.

orbitz,

That’s exactly how Trump thinks, whenever he calls things unfair it’s just regular crap but everything is unfair if they don’t get their desired outcome. The mental gymnastics are absolutely amazing with these people. If we could turn that into an energy source we could get off of oil. Likewise with their projection, though we’d need to limit the size of screen they’d produce otherwise we could only make out a nose hair at best.

orbitz,

In the 90s it felt like we may be working towards that idealism, aftwards…not so much. Plus after mid 2000s/2010 everything wanted to be gritty which doesn’t work for Star Trek. That said I haven’t watched any series since Enterprise(on my list just not up there), but the recent movies felt less like Star Trek than the TNG ones.

orbitz,

Two weeks around Trump cronies does sound like it’d feel like eternity, though I doubt any of them would make a single Scaramucci in fast food or anything at minimum wage. I may lower some of my morals for less but not as low to be working for Trump for any paycheque.

For the shortest tenures (or close) in the Trump administration it’s amusing how well known he is just by political durations being measured by his employment.

orbitz,

Didn’t he clear out a bunch of the Italian mob (as a prosecutor) and just let the Russian move in to get a foothold? That’s not being naive (if correct and given his actions appear to be) and just being a scumbag.

orbitz,

As an person who takes medication for ADD, wonder if it’s cause he’s not taking them these days (least as much as he used to) he’s pretty much confirmed taking them and before I knew I had it I’d knod off in meetings, much as I tried not to. Mostly get to two the head knod stage and jerk more awake.

Also I’d knod off on car rides even while on work trips, they were longer and boring, like a couple hours. For those that may think they have it as well but may need further proof of signs, those were some signs to it previously that I didn’t know. Before reading up on it I had no idea getting sleepy in certain situations was a flag for it.

Of course if I’ve misread these signs in articles incorrectly please correct me in comments, I don’t want to give false information, I just sort of take my meds and deal with it these days.

orbitz,

NYT is carrying enough water for Trump they may as well be an aqua duct. Mean the polls may be accurate but it’s hard to believe much of what they put out between Biden and Trump. I’m sure I could read the methods but I rarely get to read NYT due to paywall.

orbitz,

But if media can’t blame the liberals for any issue, who can they blame? The conservatives? Not according to their owners, no siree, not this conservative mouthpiece.

orbitz,

I kinda like ‘its all good’. Which I never took to mean it was good but ‘what you say when things go horribly wrong’ as a joking meaning, aka it’s the situation you can’t change now so just go with it until you can change things.

orbitz,

I had to check Google maps to make sure but the next closest city appears to be about 300kms south (Athabasca, unless Lac La Biche is closer), even with public transit they aren’t getting anywhere else. There’s nothing in so much of Northern Canada you’re screwed for mobility without a vehicle.

orbitz,

That was one of my thoughts, the amount of social data he could get from Starfleet Academy would be huge. Its not like he needed to study the material. I guess there’s an argument that Data was only as social as he was because of the academy. Or maybe the computation needed to make the officer decisions are much more intensive than we think, contrary to what Lower Decks shows heh, kidding I love that show.

orbitz, (edited )

I don’t think the Trump family can produce a relatively normal person, but hopefully for his sake.

I should say the Donald Trump offspring, not necessarily the whole Trumps.

orbitz,

I thought with Trump his Dad schooled him to behave the way he did, always pitting the sons against each other, never accept a loss etc. It’d be easier to pity him under that view if he wasn’t trying to wreck the world.

Oh and him not realizing this even being an old man at this point. At some point people need to learn some self reflection but when you have access to as much money as Trump (not as much as he claims) there’s not much reason to.

orbitz,

I thought the pulling the wearer into the other realm was part of the lore, that’s why it wouldn’t work the same on elves or a wizard, they are already part of that realm. So I’m agreeing I just thought I saw on tolkienfans it was the intended reading of the situation but I can’t remember if it was just theory from letters or something he wrote about.

Also why Frodo saw such a bright light when rescued at the Ford, he saw the elf, Glorifindal? As he was in the other realm. Also showed why that elf couldn’t go on the quest with them, he’d be like a beacon.

Pelosi Wants FBI to Investigate Pro-Palestine Protesters for Financial Ties to Russia (www.rollingstone.com)

Protesters disrupted Pelosi’s appearance in Seattle on Thursday to call for an end to Israel‘s assault on Palestine. Vocal demonstrators have also been appearing regularly at President Joe Biden’s events. Pelosi said that she would like the FBI to investigate whether Russia is financing these groups....

orbitz,

Yes but of course they’re capitalizing on this by stirring up both sides.

orbitz,

That conflict is very messy and I don’t agree with Israel’s overall actions, but as bad as Russia is a pretty high bar. Russia stirs up shit where it’ll weaken anyone in the West. Israel definitely isn’t the good guy in their conflict (don’t think anyone but civilians are good there but that’s another thing) but as bad as Russia? I don’t think that. Though I’m regularly wrong so just my opinion.

orbitz,

Apparently many European representatives (if the headlines are correct) and from the actions in the US the entire GOP party. But go ahead and shill for Russia. I also never said Israel is good, I was just saying Russia was seeing shit happen and stirred the fuck out of it.

orbitz,

In Canada ours have a sticker that says the amounts are calibrated to a certain temperature (15C I think), so I assumed it took that into account. I try not to think about how much it costs so didn’t over analyze it.

orbitz,

I just scrolled quickly and didn’t see it but the guy who played Peck ( William Atherton) in Ghostbusters the first one. Evidently he was not well received after the movie, least for awhile. He was a great at playing asshole characters in the 80s.

orbitz,

Also they were on similar level, Gandalf and the balrog, it’s a boss enemy he’d be on fairly equal footing if he was allowed to be his full divine abilities. The rest may have been able to take it on if they were willing to die, since I believe that’s the only way that balrogs were killed in the past by great elf warriors.

orbitz,

I knew he did both but thought he painted after he left the armed forces like as a hobby at first. Thanks for the new info. I never actually followed or watched much of him but do remember seeing him regularly enough channel surfing way back then.

Pierre Poilievre Wants a Carbon Tax Election | The Walrus (thewalrus.ca)

REMEMBER BREXIT? That time a Conservative Party directed widespread voter frustration at a single easy scapegoat, smothered the public with misinformation, and were rewarded with their biggest electoral victory in decades? Something similar is happening today in Canada....

orbitz,

Yet I imagine the Kelowna area will still vote for a Conservative to be our representative next election, so many people with money and other conservative types in the area. I was constantly checking updates as one of the fires were within like 1-2 km, it was very stressful and I wasn’t ever in an evacuation zone. Had everything ready just in case we had to go right away. Granted there was many buildings between me and the fire but it hit pretty fast, so I may have been overreacting but I’d rather be prepared than caught off guard. Will definitely vote for people that want to curb our environmental impact myself but feels like pissing in the wind when looking at vote counts after the election.

orbitz,

Soon it’ll be, ’ give birth in our facilities then you can work when you’re finished with labour, don’t worry we can provide education and daycare as long as you sign an indentured servitude for you and the new employee’.
