You folks remember when the founder of helped create a cryptocurrency, then injected it into the Signal app right before stepping down?

An unwanted feature forced upon the users. "But Signal is open source" you cry, ignoring the fact that they have full control over the server and client.

The FBI funded, cryptocurrency supporting, anti-federation, google play services enabled chat app is not your friend.

I used to be indifferent when it came to Signal, but more and more I'm starting to see it's not really compatible with a free and federated ecosystem and ideology. Its just another app store chat app.

@proactiveservices signal is absolutely a good choice for the average user if the goal is stable encrypted communication with easy onboarding, it's really good at that and there's no denying it.

But long term, I will not use or recommend it. I don't trust their long terms goals, survivability, or past actions. There's just too much going on that conflicts with what an open communication platform looks like to me. They're going to run out of money.

The Pavot Mineclone2 server is experiencing some network issues at the moment. I expect it to be back up soon.

@bloodaxe I find it just as fun as Minecraft as far as that kind of stuff goes. I don't really play anything other than Mineclone2, but it's been an adequate replacement.

I think development is steady, but I'm definitely not the best person to talk about that.

I'm really surprised there isn't at least one client that's compatible on all (most) platforms, like how has .

I think attempts to bridge this gap, but uses different client sources for different platforms, so it lacks unity between clients.

Does anybody have some insider news as to whether or not something like this is in the works? Perhaps a shiny new client?

The mainstream "tech" YouTubers and their consequences have been a disaster for my comment section.

Thanks to LTT and co. indiscriminately telling their viewers about how hard drives are "dead" and doing sponsored server builds with 16TB SSD arrays, I now have to endure at least one teenager with a Roblox pfp per week commenting "HDDs are dead lol, nobody should be using spinning rust! downvoted and unsubscribed" under my video.

Transferring all my domains to was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be, took maybe a few hours at most.
