Expecting a bumper crop of pomegranates this year, my first real crop. The tree has lived here for 3 years, last year I got two fruits. I think it’s time has come. The tree is over 6 feet tall now, when it moved in here, it was but a wee sapling, under a foot tall.

The pomegranate tree started as a wee lad, maybe a foot tall, very scrawny. Now the tree is over 6 feet tall, 6 feet around. It has dozens of flowers. It is right near my front gate, so it will be a wonderful privacy tree as well as a fruit barer.

Tonight's show is the best of my friend Jay's records. He gave them to me three years ago, when he thought he was dying from cancer, asking that I play them on the radio so he could hear them again and I did nine shows worth at the time. He beat the cancer, but died this week from Covid.

A little before 6am this morning, police in Ann Arbor moved on the diag and cleared the pro-Palestine protest encampment, using riot gear and pepper spray.

From what I can tell there was no precipitating event to this, the protesters have been pretty civil and calm on the diag.

UMich President Ono appears to have just decided this was the opportune time, with students away for the summer, and so police did what police do, used violence to move out protestors.

One of the highlights of our short trip to Lille was the Palais des Beaux Arts and its beautiful permanent collection

ROUTE DE VERSAILLES À LOUVECIENNES Auguste RENOIR Limoges, 1841 – Cagnes-sur-mer, 1919 Huile sur toile 1895 Louveciennes est un village situé à 17 kilomètres de Paris où les parents d'Auguste Renoir s'installent en 1868. à la suite des bouleversements urbains parisiens. Renoir est séduit par cette ancienne route royale qui relie Versailles à Saint-Germain en-Laye. Elle permet d'intéressants points de vue par sa localisation en hauteur et ses deux rangées de grands arbres qui créent une intéressante perspective. Néanmoins, à la date d'exécution de ce tableau, ce n'est plus la topographie qui intéresse Renoir, mais l'affirmation de la campagne et tout ce qu'elle propose de variations infinies de couleurs et de motifs.
SOUS LES BRANCHES Ernest LAURENT 1859, Gentilly – 1929, Bièvres Huile sur toile 1907 Le tableau est peint dans la veine impressionniste. Le dessin est absent, les masses et les contours se devinent grâce à la juxtaposition des touches de couleurs. Même le blanc du vêtement est constitué de reflets colorés, produits par les rayons du soleil qui percent le feuillage. Louvre n'est pas à proprement parler un portrait, elle est une sorte de mise en scène sensible et poétique du lien qui unit l'artiste et son modèle. Le modèle représenterait la mère de la donatrice, Denise Masson, fille du collectionneur Maurice Masson, celui-là même qui a fait entrer la peinture impressionniste au husée en 1949, avec les tableaux de Sisley ou Monet entre autres.
[LE GOÛTER AU JARDIN ou DANS LE JARDIN Ernest Joseph LAURENT Gentilly (Val-de-Marnel), 1859 – Bièvres (Essonnel), 1929 Huile sur toile 1904 Directement influencé par la technique impressionniste, Laurent choisit ses sujets parmi les occupations de la vie domestique. Il accorde dans ses cuvres une place particulière à la femme, dont il associe la sensibilité aux fleurs et aux créations de la nature. L'atmosphère intimiste et tendre de cette scène est suggérée par le voile léger des touches superposées et des tonalités douces. Paul Jamot, peintre et ami de Laurent, parle de lui en ces termes: « De telles émotions. de tels secrets ne se laissent pas capter par des contours précis et rigides, ni par la franchise des teintes plates, ni même par les jeux contrastés du coloris ...) car il n'est pas question de définir, mais de suggérer. »
